me neither the whole thing just looks bad. It reminds me of when you add a shed structure to a trailer home and the two just don't mesh.

Can I ask why a park should have to compete at all?

Or is this project perhaps the brainstorm of a certain UDP member?

Weren't we complaining five years ago that Vision's lawns were too generic?

It was designed by local architect DIALOG. Nobody from the company is currently on the UDP, and neither were they when the UDP reviewed the design in 2017. In addition to the Park Board staff, there was also an advisory panel involved in the initial design process: "a selected group of individuals and representatives who reside, work or have involvement within an organization in proximity to the new Park site."

Very true.

I think it could work but it will probably need to be locked up at night which is a common practice in other large cities.

It's better than grey spandrel but it does clash with the brick.

Yeah I just liked the lighter brown stains they had on the rendering. Not complaining about the wood.

There's another Yaletown addition that uses a similar material.

The problem here is that both your example, and the Yaletown Brewpub use corroded steel, and the Homer Street addition has a very light steel frame, as you can see from the exposed columns. I don't think it would take the weight that steel cladding would add.

I think the project next to Stadium Station is the benchmark. I like the way that one looks.

I think they are trying to be matchy-matchy.
But even if a single family house has brick at the base and wood siding above, they don't use the same colour for both.
The wood siding on its own doesn't look bad, it just doesn't work with the rustic brick below.

The worst wood choice has to be Vancouver House. I walked by the other day and all the stairwells and decking just looks horrible. It hasn't aged well.

It has been 1 year pretty much. But yeah, I agree though... although I will say that it probably won't age well 5 years on.

IMO, the best material that ages well is brick .

I'm not a huge fan of the Richards park, particularly the time it has taken to all come together. That said, it's fine as a one-off, not a trend.

That's exactly what it was. They might as well pitch a tent on top.

Now officially the ugliest building in town that only this generation can concoct.
The top part looks like a cheap industrial office building from the third world.

Sad day for Yaletown's historic district.

That's horrible! The City wouldn't care since it's only Chinatown where people are pretty meek.

Don't worry, sooner or later it will spread all over Vancouver when businesses leave for greener pastures.
