WHAT A MONSTER!!!.

Metro King. A generic name for a (monster) generic building. This has to be a record of some kind for a single tower/sq footage.

At an average of 10 000sq feet per floor, all that density only works out to 700'. Could have easily gotten to "tallest west of Toronto" with smaller floorplates.

Holy smokes, this would be so prominent on the Metro Van skyline given Metrotowns topography.

Do we know the specific height? I can't read the elevation plans
Also this is a MEH design. Hoping for something more iconic with the Bosa proposal and we will definitely be getting something nicer from Grosvenor Brentwood.

I wonder how long it'll take before there actually is a 70 story tower. I keep seeing towers being proposed with X storeys and then what ends up getting built is shorter. If we're lucky we'll get 65, more likely 60 storeys.

There we have the exact height for several towers. Surprising that at 82 floors Pinnacle would only come at 245 meters.

So great to see 200 meters becoming more and more commonplace in here.

MEH design !! That is precisely what struck me the first I looked at this. So stereotyped and cookie-cutter. Oh well, one can always hope, I guess.

The design is forgettable but I almost want to say that’s a good thing, given its height. If they tried too hard and screwed up, we’d be stuck with an eyesore that can be seen from all over the place. I enjoy the podium the most and am hoping for minimal spandrel and higher quality glazing. Nice mix of uses too.

Looking forward to seeing Metrotown continue to mature.

What is the difference between market rental and "inclusionary" rental? Assuming that the Strata will have a separate entrance like with Amazing Brentwood, but wonder if they will share the two amenity floors?

DailyHive article has all the details. It also mentions an amenity space up on top for the condo dwellers.

Definitely echo the common sentiment on here, good height, nice podium, forgettable but not offensive tower.

It’s fine, tho h I wish the mid tower taper didn’t exist or was symmetrical on all sides.

Rental Use Zoning Backgrounder.pdf

2. Inclusionary Rental, which would require – 20% of units in all new multi-family developments be rental, city-wide

Who owns and operates all these rental units going up all around the city? Seems like a lot of trouble to manage all these hundreds and thousands of properties going up...

Tall, ugly, and uninspired. A Burnaby special.

Where is downtown Burnaby's "high street" supposed to be prior to the mall being torn down? Is it tucked into the Silver Dr. area? I've really only been there when there's still lots of construction going on. I assume Beresford seems better for activity than Kingsway as well, but is the commercial development that prominent on Beresford?

They have really struggled to rent the retail space along Beresford. Half of the spaces are still empty. It is unfortunate as there is a lot of foot traffic.

You may have coined a term there.

Don't know what material that is for the base, but maybe this beast will be ok from a street level perspective.

Seems like there's been no progress since they submitted an initial report (a precursor to application for Rezoning) way back in October of 2019, almost 2 years ago.

Could mean anything.
Could mean nothing at all.

You have to factor in that most likely a lot of stuff related to developments stalled or slowed down last year because of COVID.

Indications now are that the condo market has rebounded strongly so we possibly might see some progress soon(?)

At least in the case of Concord Metrotown project, the marketing for presales for the Grand tower has ramped up considerably over the past few weeks, so that one seems to be full steam ahead.

Has this new proposal from Gensler been posted yet? Just saw it on Dezeen

Gensler designs residential high-rise for British Columbia

Global architecture firm Gensler has released designs for Central Park House, a 41-storey high-rise in Burnaby, Canada, that will feature an off-centre glazed atrium halfway up that contains a swimming pool.
