Lafford certainly had all his ducks in a row before seeking approval from PAC. The speed this project is proceeding with is certainly breathtaking.

There was a concrete truck there when I drove by on Wednesday.. presumably to pour the pad for the crane.

I think that one of the things that this development will do is spur more development in the surrounding area. When it's completed, you'll have 450 residential unites as well as several businesses with employees & clients. That's a lot of people on a once vacant parcel of land.

Indeed, I should've added in recent history.

Place Assomption is absolutely the largest project in Moncton's history.
The largest project in downtown Moncton was from a French-Acadian corporation.

Well the centerpiece (main tower) at least, I'm unaware if the whole project was developed by l'Assomption or not? The old city hall section is ugly though.

Yet another indication of the seriousness of Lafford as far as 20 Record Street is concerned.

He is seeking contractors for phase two even as phase one is just starting to get off the ground. This probably means no delay between these two phases of construction.

The tower crane probably won't be at full height to begin with. It is possible to "jack up" a tower crane as construction progresses so that it is always "just tall enough" to do the job.

You see this all the time for tall skyscraper construction in larger cities.

I wonder if the 6-7 year plan was start of construction until the end of the 3rd tower with construction on the second tower starting immediately after it finishes on the first tower. This seems like a reasonable timeline.

Recently I was driving on Assomption Blvd. and going by the site. To me, that NB Power sub-station really stands out (in a bad way). It's so out of place in that location and I really hope they move it somewhere else.

I noticed on the property map that the parcel of land that it's on fully extends to the corner of Lutz & Assomption. If they ever decide to relocate the sub-station, it would open up a very nice piece of property with excellent development potential.

Just saw a photo online of the tower crane going up today. It's going to be really tall from the get go, probably about 65-70 metres or so. If I get a chance, I'll try to snap a photo on my way home from work.

Drove by at noon and yup... it's a very tall crane. From Gunningsville bridge, it looked as tall as the Alliant tower although I know it isn't.

I wonder if there ever been a crane this tall in Moncton before.
