Okay, the last part was a joke, since when has Calgary been anything but non-stop from Regina (with the exception of bad weather diversions)? Same for Regina-Edmonton.

Looks like full usage of YQR to YYZ using the new A220-300 will now start October 31st with 3 direct flights daily. Before then there is one of the direct flights using the new aircraft and the rest with the CRJ900.

Non-stop, I think. Remember that direct flights aren't necessarily non-stop, in airline parlance. A flight to Montreal with a stop in Toronto is a direct flight to Montreal and Toronto (same aircraft) but only non-stop to Toronto.

I think the A220 will do us fine. I'd personally rather more flights with fewer seats than fewer flights with more seats.

Sorry! Non-stop yes. My point was that there seems to be a delay of Air Canada replacing all the Non-stop Regina Toronto flights with the A220.

A220-300 Air Canada - 137 Seats Total
CRJ-900 Air Canada - 76 Seats Total

I personally would rather be flying on a newer plane.

True. But we won't routinely get the bigger planes until demand rebounds.

I know for my part, I'm not helping... we're not planning any air travel this year and likely not next year, either (and we cancelled the air travel we had planned last year).

But we tourists aren't the real demand driver. It's the business travelers. And until businesses want sales reps visiting in person, and training in classrooms instead of on Zoom, business air travel is going to continue to be soft.

Ya , our family won't be going on any trips requiring air travel for a couple years for sure. And not sure how long it's going to take for Biz travel to return?

I’ve already booked four different return flights haha. I truly think more people than not will want to travel again.

Haha - same here. We left for Montreal on Monday. The whole experience was incredibly normal all things considered.

Apart from the fact we waited in line @ YQR (8 ppl in front of us in the priority line) for abt 45 mins just to check bags. If this is how they're handling 2 flights at a time this could be interesting if the volume cranks up any. I've never waited that long to check bags @ YQR in the past.

To be fair to AC, the CR9 we were on had an updated leather interior. Very comfortable. I wasn't aware they were upgrading that fleet.

Just to add to the discussion above, I think personal travel will rebound much quicker than business travel. There is a lot of pent up demand for vacations and I know several people (myself included) that have booked flights to warm weather destinations for this winter.

On the other hand, many businesses have found out that they have been able to carry on just fine without face to face meetings and have reaped the rewards of significantly reduced travel costs. While I look forward to seeing some of my colleagues from across the country in person again, I know that it won't be happening to the extent that it did pre-Covid.

You might have had a newer CR9 that maybe seemed upgraded. They did purchase 20 more of those shortly before the pandemic. Maybe they have brought some out of storage now that things are ramping up.

I booked a winter trip too to Florida. Although we're flying out of YYC instead of YQR; there just weren't good enough connections out of Regina. (plus I have a kid who lives 10 minutes from the airport in YYC).

I'd much rather fly out of Regina, but the price difference and flight selection just wasn't there in YQR.

On Porter's website, they define the map as showing "possible" destinations, but I don't think it's any great secret that Regina and Saskatoon are in the long-term plans.

The E195 jets open up a lot of possibilities. Obviously, YQR-YYZ worked on an E190 so will be easy peasy with an E195.

More likely it'll start with YWG-YQR, but options are always good, and I especially favour options that are ones I would actually fly. (I'm glad Flair is here, but except for a weekend getaway once they have daily service, I wouldn't likely use them because of their fee structure.)

Yeah, it will be nice to have a third comparable service competition to Air Canada and West Jet with the higher frequency than Flair Airlines at the moment.

The Porter news is definitely great for the Canadian Consumer. That said I'm very curious to know how they're going to transfer pax from YYZ to Billy Bishop (to their regional Q400 fleet).

Would it be like a 5 minute flight from Billy to Pearson? Or an express Bus sort of thing?
