The thing about CBD's is that they get overbuilt with office buildings, nobody wants to live there, thousands of people drive into them for work, then drive out of them after work, leaving them ghost towns at night.

Leave all that on the other side of Harvey and let Kelowna's downtown have some office workers, and a LOT of residential and retail. So much more vibrant that way.

It would look ridiculous in central Kelowna.
What's wrong with Amsterdam and a mix of other styles? Way better than nonsense such as Vancouver Specials.

I'll never be one to prop up Vancouver Specials. They're a blight.

And it's not that I have a problem with this project's scope; I like a centralized shopping area surrounded by apartments. It's more to do with the architecture and the fact that the development is an island surrounded by parking.

Put the parking underground, find some type of architecture that's a bit more contemporary, and I think it's got a future.

Horrible news, one in critical condition. I get emotional when I hear of tragedies like these. My thoughts are to all affected and their family.

Awful story. Hopefully no fatalities.

Must've been a terrifying ordeal for this guy:

The KelownaNow article has been updated saying that there are multiple fatalities.

UPDATE: Multiple fatalities, 1 unaccounted for after Kelowna crane collapse

(UPDATE: July 12 @ 3:20 pm) - Officials have now said that today's crane collapse in downtown Kelowna has resulted in "multiple confirmed fatalities."

RCMP Insp. Adam MacIntosh confirmed the reports moments ago and added that one person was still unaccounted for as well.

The missing person is reportedly not from the work crew that was on site today, but no further details were provided.

Oh wow, that's crazy. I hope WorkSafeBC will get to the bottom of the cause for this tragedy.

Using a mobile device while operating this kind of equipment? Not sure. I don't know anything about crane operations.

Mission Group Kelowna Review

The developer has not a good reputation for being a good builder. Taken straight out of Google Reviews:

Poor selection of trades and poor workmanship are claimed. Not directly related to this project but definitely a red flag to how they do business.

I have some dirt from other Mission Group projects but I'm going to withhold it until the authorities complete their investigation and families have had time to grieve.
