From https://sohi.ca/how-we-build-an-economy-for-everyone/

Quote:
Supporting the downtown core and other business districts through and beyond the recovery
  • Supporting downtown coming out of the pandemic. I have been a passionate advocate for downtown and showed leadership for the downtown arena and surrounding development. We need to build a downtown where people will want to visit, live and do business. We know the way people work and where they work is changing, and that introduces new challenges and opportunities for businesses and residents in the downtown core that will need to be addressed through programming and strategic investments.
  • Engaging other Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) to address their distinct needs, and ensure that our recovery efforts embrace the whole city.
  • Addressing core social policy priorities – including housing and homelessness, mental health and addition, and community safety – to ensure that our city remains a safe and healthy place to live, work, and do business.
  • Building vibrant neighbourhoods. Putting the structure and supports in place so coffee shops, restaurants, and other local businesses can thrive at a neighbourhood level across every part of the city.

^ Those are typical political answers we hear daily. No substance.

Outline a plan that makes me want to vote for you.

The same applies to the other candidates as well.

Why don't you outline a plan that you want to hear?

^ why should I - I am not running - it is a thankless job .

I am looking for someone to support who has a plan.

And not redesign Jasper avenue every 10 years.

Or drive away business by not enforcing basic laws downtown leading to unsafe conditions.

And for Pete’s sake stop having your city administration approve monstrosities like the new Library.

It’s a low bar.

some days i’d be happy with a plan that just means my front door and my loading dock wouldn’t constantly be used as a drug den or a public washroom.

Cheryll Watson held an open house at her campaign HQ (old RBC at Jasper/101) yesterday, so I stopped by and had an enjoyable chat with the lady herself. Kerry Diotte then came by to introduce himself so I let the two of them talk and I left for the gym. After the fact I should have told Kerry to say hi to Faith Goldy. In any case I'm now rather wary of Cheryll's campaign for obvious reasons. Amarjeet Sohi will be my choice for Mayor of Edmonton unless something drastic happens between now and October 18.

^The former UCP press secretary for post-secondary education seems to be a big part of her campaign team. I have seen people ask Cheryll about her ties to the UCP on twitter, and I have never seen her answer/address it.

Considering the Federal Liberals will call an election this fall and win Sohi may be our best bet for mayor.

If she's in with the UCP I guess she's not a fan of the City Charter.

Are any candidates talking about the Charter?

Great question. I want a mayoral candidate to build our city charter back better, including new taxation and regional planning powers.

I just wonder how friendly Edmonton is to Justin Trudeau's Liberals. Sohi did lose the last federal election to Tim Uppal, a Conservative MP who doesn't even live in Alberta.

Lots of signs in Rossdale for this City Councillor candidate, who is attempting to unseat Tony Caterina

Not very friendly at all. Liberals may not win a seat in Alberta this time around, which is why it's doubly important for Edmonton to have a mayor with ties to the PMO given the Premier of Calgary's frosty relationship with the PM.

Edmonton-Centre and Edmonton-Mill Woods are both leaning Liberal right now, with Edmonton-Griesbach a toss-up.
