Considering the huge number of people moving into the area, as well as people working in the offices buildings around, I think there is a ready-made market for both to do well.

Excited to see which area Urban Fare would choose to open up in the Lower Mainland: first time for it to venture outside the downtown Peninsula, so it really shows how far the suburbs have come along.
Save on Foods and his other grocery banners were recently consolidated under one umbrella called the Pattison Food Group. It's still very early and we're not sure how it will affect the Nestors, Buy-Low and Meinhardt brands. I was thinking because Meinhardt and Urban fares are so similar they could rebrand the existing Meinhardts to Urban Fares.

I think you'd be covered by the term "Metro Core Area" which includes the central Broadway corridor.

That’s what a lot of people mean when they say downtown. “Vancouver metro Core” is a mouthful. (And I would include areas slightly west of burrad as well, personally)

Edit: I just searched the City's website and in Feb they suggested the Brentwood location (Rez #20-37 (#2 - 4615 Lougheed Highway)) and an alternate Edmonds location (Rez #20-38 (7300 Market Crossing)).
Also apparently the Metrotown location at Old Orchard (Kingsway and Willingdon) is moving forward.
The Brentwood location is right at tower 3 facing lougheed highway. It is so close to tower 2 entrance. Really hope it finally couldn’t go through like the original location they chose at kings crossing for Edmonds. It is not a wise choice to open a store right under a residential tower since it will face lots of opposing voices when it goes to public hearing. Better to choose a small plaza like what they did for Metrotown and the new Edmonds location.

Meinhardt stores are really nice as well, especially the one up at South Granville retail strip. The only sad-looking Meinhardt is actually the one downtown by Pacific Centre. Went in a couple of times and it was absolutely quiet and the displayed cooked food looked rather stale. I suppose some of the reasons are the pandemic (no previous working lunch crowd), lack of immediate surrounding local residents (only condos are across the street: the Hudsons, and the one at SFU), and the lousy retail synergy, street culture and perceived personal safety, especially at night.

With the large population residing around Brentwood mall, a medium-sized Meinhardt would do very well.

I know. I don't agree with it, but I get it. Burnaby has rules about how far these stores have to be from various things (like parks) and as they're only allowing gov owned stores those rules are followed to the letter. If people don't have an issue with a liquor store then they shouldn't have an issue with a cannabis store.

Just curious if the fresh air system can cool down the temperature? What is the highest temperature south/west facing units could reach these days?

"En gros" as we say in French .... I just hope that (all respect to Metrotown) but that Brentwood will have a more "urbane" (with an 'e') vibe than Metrotown. Metrotown is impressive and dynamic, but for me, it is a little "edgy," a liitle , somehow 'raw.' I hope that Brentwood avoids that, and feels inviting and relaxing for the residents, and for people stopping in for a visit.

What is the approximate percentage of owner occupied units in Amazing Brentwood towers? I found many Metrotown buildings such as station square are mostly occupied by tenants.

It's 32 in my south western master bedroom right now. (Tower 2). Highest I've seen it was 36. It's horrible. Portable AC going in living room and while it's 32 right now there as well, it's much more bearable. I'm dreading Monday/Tuesday.

It's unforgivable that they didn't include A/C on these towers. Our building does have some type of FortisBC central air cooling which does a decent job, but is not the same as a proper in-unit A/C. We had 25C in the unit during daytime and are thankfully facing northwest. It should be able to push few degrees cooler but the system is pending some maintenance right now and not operating at 100%. Perfect timing for that.

The mall (at Metrotown) missed a trick yesterday by closing early at the usual time of 7pm, rather than keeping open longer to at least 10pm or even midnight.

It was more packed than your usual Sunday and almost as packed as a black Friday event, with most people congregating there to escape the heat, having no A/C in their homes.
And obviously they weren't just moseying around - they were buying stuff, on top of the cooling refreshments and drinks.

And then to add insult to injury, Skytrain breaks down (or had a stalled train that caused a 20 minute to half hour delay) just as people were getting ushered out when they could have spent a couple more hours sheltered in from the heat.

I was there today. Every space in parking was almost full and many people were just sitting on the floor inside the mall, propped against the wall.

I was there yesterday. Could not find a place to sit anywhere in the mall. Very annoying.

And I'm sure the AC was being pushed to the limit because it was really warm in there. Lol

I think I saw them running Mark I SkyTrains in this heat. That is crazy and dangerous. They should have been taken out of service during this heat wave.

That's also one of the reasons why the Mark I's are to be discontinued: They don't have air conditioning.

I think it depended on where you were.
The main Food court (n the eastern side) was a stifling oven, ironically not helped by all those skylights they put up there that basically turned it into a greenhouse and then compounded by most people erroneously believing it was the best place to hang out and congregating there en mass thus raising the temperatures even more.

The lower level and the western side (closer to the Superstore) was much much cooler, though I don't understand why.
The entrances and exit doors on that side of the mall (including the superstores) are more frequently used so logically you would imagine more circulation of hot air from the outside - though this didn't seem to be the case or to raise the temperatures on that wing.
They must have a better venting system on that side, especially if you add the likes of Silvercity and their (probably) powerful A/C systems.
(Silvercity was completely booked out for the entire afternoon and evening as well. LOL!!! Again.....everyone getting the same smart idea at the same time)

I can't imagine the mishmash of mechanical engineering wonders it takes to cool down a massive space that large, so it's probably no surprise that some sides of the mall were having more struggles with A/C and air flow in general.
