That's one of the Weldon Street projects (66 Weldon).

They have "improved" the storefronts in the Subway Block downtown on Main Street:



It is pretty sad when painted black plywood sheets installed over the doorways of a building can be considered an "improvement", but in this case it certainly is. At least we won't have hobo encampments in the doorways anymore, frightening unwitting passers-by.

The guy that was essentially living in the doorway is now on the other side of the street and down about a block. I saw his new camp this morning. Also, how long do you think it will be before those padlocks are broken off. That all said, this does look much better than before.

I'd not seen it before, but by the looks of it, it's probably dated and never got off the ground. Looking at the picture of what they had planned, I'm kind of glad it didn't happen. Very underwhelming proposal. Hopefully, this prime piece of real estate can be developed with something more suitable. So much more potential!

Driving down Main Street the other evening, I couldn't help but notice the massive stainless steel brew tanks in the front part of Happy Craft Brewing, near their garage style main entrance.

There's an article in today's T&T - apparently they plan to open by the third week of July. Specialties will include IPAs, stouts and sours.

The brew pub will not have a kitchen, but, apparently there will be a rotation of three food trucks which will park next to their backdoor patio which will provide food options tp patrons. This is a pretty novel concept.

Unless I'm missing something, from that graphic you can't really tell where the basketball courts are moving to, unless it's that small paved area right next to the lake... if so I hope it's fenced in lol.

The basketball courts are being moved out of the lower bowl due to flooding issues, although I can't remember precisely where they are going. I think they may be moving them up by the playground area.

I could be wrong but I think the plan is to move them up to where they have the hockey rink in the winter. Or used to. Right at the top of the hill just before the playground

Nice video of the Blue Cross building lit up. They should do this year round it would be a nice addition. Also it’s so sad that the only person seen in this video was a homeless man downtown pushing a cart. The city really needs to find away to attract people downtown daily instead of just on weekends.

Did the City decided not to go forward with part 2 of Downing street? It's frustrating not to see any development on that project.

Patience grasshopper. This was always meant to be a multiyear project. They had special federal funding to help with phase one. There will need to be additional negotiations for phase two and three, including with other levels of government and with private developers before much else happens.

I don't expect much to happen before 2024, when the new Codiac RCMP building is complete. This is what has the city's attention right now. If I was to guess, phase two of Downing might proceed in 2025-26, and the whole thing (including a relocated library and farmers market) might happen by the early 2030s.

Development timelines are a bitch, especially when government money is involved...…..

The federal goverment has just released a new Community Revitalization Fund and the Downing street project could benefits from that project. I hope the city will look into that opportunity! It would be nice to see it move quicker.

Rising Tide declined to specify the exact locations of their newly acquired properties.

However, public property records show a Church Street property and a Dominion Street property were purchased in June. One is expected to have eight housing units, while the second will have seven units.

Mekni said the hope is to start moving people in by Labour Day. One of the properties requires more renovations than the other, she said. Each unit will have its own washroom, and there will be some common spaces.

A vacant lot at the northern edge of downtown Moncton has also been purchased.

Mekni said contractors are already lined up to build a 21-unit apartment building on the property. The aim is to have the building complete in December with people moving in before Christmas.

Another tenant for the Higgins Block.

Bella Promessa formal and bridal wear is relocating to the third floor of the Higgins Block from their current location on Mountain Road.

It's good to see high quality retailers relocating to the core. They will not however have a street presence in this new location. I hope this will not impact their business in any way.

A bridal wear shop is definitely a destination retailer, and often by appointment. Nobody drops in to buy wedding apparel as an impulse buy. This is exactly the type of retailer this location needs as it brings more shoppers downtown which makes it easier for more casual retailers to set up shop in the area later. A great catch for the Higgins Block.
