At 250M, the tower dwarfs Central City office tower to the right side of the image.
It's actually 225 m, but would still be a hell of an addition to Surrey Centre.

Thanks for posting!
It looks like the side of the same tower in the previous renderings.
The ends are flat with the horizontal bands.

With a bit of Trump Tower.

These look to be largely the same building from different angles.
Both have the angled cut-back on the curved curtain wall to the base.
The newer one does not have the open patio levels that the older one does
(though the north side of the new rendering looks like the south side of the old rendering).
The tower is probably symmetrical with west and south elevations mirroring east and north elevations.
... and the surrounding buildings look the same, too.

I just clued into the fact that Surrey Central Station is right at the base of the tower.

Agree. Looks like the previous render is showing the same tower with better details and is also showing the same adjacent buildings. The northeast facing facade of the recent render also appears to have the same southwest facade symmetry of the older render, as well. So this looks like the same tower. Maybe the previous render lacked the height context at 225m because it has such a large stubby floor plate that makes it look shorter.

Beautiful! This is the game-changing office tower that we have all been waiting for: something to kickstart Surrey Central's glorious path to its CBD-hood, so to speak.

Just look at how small 3 Civic Plaza looks in comparison! Fingers crossed this moves through at the size proposed.

the daily hive article mentions that the federal government is going to consolodate its SOF offices into the building, how many are there? the tax centre would be one? which would be a good site for redevelopment once moved.

If you notice, the article says that in 2019 the federal government said they were looking at consolidating its SOF offices into a building. The not unreasonable assumption is that it could be this building.

ok yea, but how many offices would they have? there is tax and passport what else?

what other types of clients would warrant such a large office building to be built?

Maybe one of our Surrey experts knows what offices the Feds have scattered around South of Fraser. I wouldn't assume they would occupy the whole of a building this big, but taking office space to give financial support to a municipal project isn't new. The office tower at Vancouver's Downtown Central Library was a Federal lease guarantee to help build it (which is why the roof terrace wasn't open to the public for so many years). There are also Federal leased offices in Woodwards for the National Film Board, which was a contribution to making that project work.

I think they have taken some artistic liberties with the picture and it won't be quite as dominating, although it will be over 50 meters taller which is a lot!

The shape reminds me the most of Capitol Residences in Downtown.

This project is exactly what Surrey Central needs to help solidify itself as a true secondary urban core. A good anchor project to help shed its current lingering bad image and to be an anchor to stimulate further growth. Really hope it moves forward.

The National Verification and Collections Centre (formerly Surrey Tax Centre) and the adjoining Tax Services Office employ 2,500 people already. Add the CRA Call Centre in the Central City Tower, the Service Canada personnel on 104th, the IRC (Immigration, Refugees, Canada) in the Coast Capital tower, plus Passport Canada in the Mall, and you can see how this tower would be filled up in no time. I do not think the Federal Government finds it efficient to have services scattered all over North Surrey.

Looks like both towers are on the old Rec centre site. I wonder when it will finally be demolished and 102 Ave will be re aligned.

Feds investing 1.2 million into the Metis Provincial Council of BC building (located at Gateway Skytrain).

Quote:
The Métis Provincial Council of B.C., located in Surrey, will carry out the “Mamawii” project to provide a culturally appropriate service centre and gathering place where Métis people can access community and cultural programs, seek employment and training, and apply for Métis citizenship. The project includes renovating 8,000 square feet of existing space, conducting electrical and mechanical work, installing signage, and other related works.

Crane went up today at the Centra site (13868 101 Ave) - guess we need a thread for this building as it is clearly U/C. (see https://centrasurrey.com for a refresher if needed as this has seemingly stayed mostly off the radar here)
