Yes, of course, neither Vancouver nor Stockholm is big enough nor close enough to warrant any nonstop flights. Regarding TK, will they ever be allowed a higher frequency
(presuming a return to normal post-Covid economy) than they have now? They tried to hold out for 5x / week, but were arm twisted to accept three.
EK and Qatar out of Seattle both have five a week, unless I am mistaken. Is the YVR mideast connection market at all substantial?

TK operates YVR-IST mainly to attract passengers between the two city, and more importantly, onward connection to South Asia/India, Africa, Middle East, etc. Adding an extra stop at ARN would definitely hurt that, as no one would want to fly 2-stops when there are plenty of 1-stop options available.

New destination for YVR (though not a very exciting one), as Flair adds direct Vancouver to Grand Prairie flights 2x per week. Not sure how this one will do, especially with AC and WS existing flights to Ft St John a couple hours drive away. Hopefully with the low fares advertised they can induce some demand.

Well, at least it's a brand new destination outside of BC. And we're starting to steal connecting traffic out of YYC/YEG after they stole ours.

So what's next, Lethbridge? Medicine Hat? There aren't many more airport in the west left anymore...

And also, the timing of the flight seems to be replacing the YVR-YXS-YEG-YXS-YVR routing. So either both routes will have to go, or they'll remove the YXS-YEG leg.

Might be more profitable than 737 service from YYZ to YQQ... At least the flight is shorter so less lost on fuel burn

Buh-bye Fluffy:

Vancouver airport has hired someone to shoot and kill its unwanted rabbit population
St. John Alexander
Published Tuesday, June 22, 2021

RICHMOND, B.C. -- For the past few weeks, a man with an active firearm has been shooting rabbits located near the hotel at Vancouver International Airport in the middle of the night.

CTV News Vancouver has learned a contractor was hired to do the culling, and more rabbits are scheduled to be shot on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Notices have been sent out advising staff of the work.

But airport employees told CTV News they did not know the culling was already taking place, until a worker arrived for a night shift and was frightened when she saw a man in the parking lot with a rifle.

“It is a public relations nightmare, and it’s cruel,” said Sorelle Saidman, founder of the Rabbitats Rescue Society. “These rabbits are very friendly. They don’t know to run from people, they would probably run towards the person with the 🞵🞵🞵, and to end their lives that way for no reason is disgusting.”...

And of course, Vancouver being Vancouver, there's bound to be some bleeding heart who cares more about unneeded rabbits than safety.

Worked at the Richmond Auto-Mall way back in the day and the annual rabbit mating season was always a nightmare for us. Always had to check twice under the cars before moving them or you'd run over a family or two. They were absolutely everywhere.

Can understand the aviation safety aspect of this. Maybe there are more humane ways to control the population though? Wonder how they dealt with them before.

Looks like the bleeding hearts won. So now what? People will make donations to relocate cute fluffy rabbits while you have kids going hungry. Misplaced priorities.

YVR suspends rabbit culling after outcry

Not sure this is the best thread for asking this, but does anyone have a sense when Air Canada might be restarting its Vancouver-Melbourne run, or perhaps when Air New Zealand might restart its flights to Vancouver? I can appreciate any proposed dates at this time can be subject to change, but it would be helpful to know if they have a target in mind. Thanks!

Given Australia’s painfully low vaccination rate I wouldn’t expect any time soon.

I hear you. I'm asking for a friend over there who is starving to leave the penal colony.

YVR-LGW has survived WS initial August cuts with once weekly flights on Saturdays (for now). I wonder if they'll end up resuming this route even before BA does.

Did I hear correctly on Global this morning that the Feds won't open the border to non-essential travel until 75% of Canadians have had their SECOND dose?

The AUS government is limiting international arrivals due to covid, so many airlines are just cancelling passenger service. The arrival cap is indeed related to vaccination levels, but suitable vax levels and lifting of the cap is not expected until late 2021/2022.

JohnnyAussie may also have some insight!

What airport is 7MB

Have gates 90 96 been permanently closed because all of AC's SEA & PDX flights use Gate E 85 instead?
