Ugh. HBC really in full IDGAF mode. I'm surprised they had the chutzpah to put their name to that press release about the window displays... feels like it happened in spite of them, not because of them.

Took a walk by there earlier and the installation looks really nice huge improvement from plywood or painted plywood - I hope they do it on the other windows as well... the memorial side is even more of a wasteland these days, not that it was much better before...

(sorry for the quality)

Has anyone heard of rumours that the building may possibly be haunted? Apparently there is an apparition of a young female child that roams the 5th floor.

Well, no worries.
She is very friendly.
Never a problem when I worked there.
She can often be very transparent.

Yes, when they occupied every floor. But most recently the toy department occupied a small space near childrens' wear.

Tantalizing! Is there a timeline we should be watching for any news on this front, or is it still early days?

I will be curious to see how many of the interested parties are planning for-profit developments backed by private capital vs. the Starlight approach of trying to leverage a ton of government money to get their hands on a politically sensitive asset.

My guess would be zero. Hopefully the use has higher benefit to the city than simply a development, leveraging public investment to realize a number of community priorities.

No takers for The Bay.

Hudson's Bay site remake plan draws a yawn in Winnipeg
‘Bay claims it “has received interest from a number of stakeholders” for the massive heritage building, but local real estate pros are skeptical

The major challenge is the Heritage designation, he said, which requires at least the block-big façade be retained during any renovation.

“If someone came up with $80 million, we could make it work,” Shindleman said. “But I would advise them not to.”

Shindleman suggests the “stakeholders” that proponents talk about is some form of government money. In the April 2021 provincial budget, the province set aside a $25 million trust fund to help with redevelopment of the building.
