625-777 Pacific St - UDP Early Brief

Quote:
This week, “professionals” on #Vancouver’s Urban Design Panel called for a citywide freeze on new housing construction, suggested eliminating 400k sqft of city owned homes because too many people live Downtown, & boasted about giving the city a taste of its own medicine #VanRe

Did senior city staff push back on any of these comments, which included a landscape architect admitting to drinking on the job? The answer is sadly no. We’ve defended these volunteers in the past, but this behaviour shows a body in desperate need of reform or abolishment.

We’ll have full coverage of this meeting in the weeks to come, however in the meantime you can express your thought on this proposal here,
https://shapeyourcity.ca/625-777-pacific-st

or send them to city council here
https://vancouver.ca/your-government/contact-council.aspx
https://twitter.com/City_Duo/status/1403484269117202433?s=20

You can probably guess whether their motion was in support or for resubmission.

It would be safe to say the comments represented a mix of their opinions, as well as that of a representative of Groundswell Landscape Architecture.

And one wonders why the UDP are listened to by the City less and less...

The library roof on the north end overlooking Georgia and Homer is open again! Mostly open, except the west end which is still closed.

I think the last time I was there to take some pics was before the pandemic.

Some new benches have been installed.

June 15 '21, my pics

For quite a while, there was a “Financing by Lanyard Group” sign in front of 1059-1075 Nelson location (beside the Butterfly/rezoning for “development of a 60-storey Passive House”), but I noticed this new one today for Montreal-based Brivia Group:

This is too wonderful to read.

I love how the City is slowly starting to show its true face.

THIS is your leadership.

THIS is who has been advising on the City's path and growth.

THIS is the reality of it all.

Its people like this sitting at the top making all the wrong decisions for far too long.

So many of us have always said it, and so many will be vindicated as these "professionals" here continue to be exposed for the frauds they are.

This City needs an enema, and it has for years. Hopefully more people come to realize it sooner than later so we can all move on and once again work to build a positive reality for all.

Luckily, this is actually not the case, but it definitely can be perceived as such to the general public.

No "citywide freeze on new housing construction" downtown today.
We have a Mass Concrete Pour or several sites have concrete deliveries today.
At 9:30 am, a convoy of 4 mixers heading north on Burrard St., then staggered going up and down Burrard St.
2 more heading downtown just now. They're all from the same fleet.

Rode the length of Granville this evening. Fairly busy. Tons of hang arounds. A lot of Police. Shocking level of empty storefronts since i last rode the area.

The best part of the ride was a character running up to me and asking me to lend him my $3000 bike for 10m so he could ride home and get his pipe. I stopped the bike and just about fell off the bike laughing. So i got off the bike and told him to take it. His eyes opened up to the size of golf balls. Then his buddies behind him started yelling Cop, Cop LOL. He walked away as i rode away. Funny experience.

Its another advisory body that shouldn't exist.

The bureaucracy here is comical.

I understand the ultimate decision is with the City - but perception is reality.

I want this to blow up into a scandal. The City needs a change, Vancouver deserves better.
