That's Ponte Tower - the first two images I posted were taken from the top. It's all cleaned up now and is a decent building though far from luxurious (save the top couple floors) and security can be a bit overbearing.

From the bottom - note that the windows actually face the communal hallway to enter units:

I always liked 'heavy' buildings but that Ponte Tower is going too far even for me... there is something vaguely sinister and dystopian looking about that building even in its cleaned up state... I can't imagine what it must have been like with the garbage pile in the middle.

This is easily one of the weirdest building complexes in the entire world. Not quite up there with the singular Kowloon Walled City, but nevertheless, very weird and fascinating.

And that is how you do it. No visible parking lots. Mixture of building styles. gradual buildup and no drop-off. Astride the mightiest river in North America.

Funny because I saw Chappie last night and there's a scene in this building where it's shown as a ghetto housing project.

Perhaps not surprisingly it was actually used as one of the sets in Dredd! And Chappie too of course. Filming is one of the major sources of income for the tower owners, and when I visited they were in the process of cleaning up after a commercial shoot.

Ponte Tower is terrifying, even cleaned up. A giant centre hole might 'seem cool' when planned, but the image of staring down from the top floors into a dark hole is very ominous. I don't mind the tower at all from the outside, but those interior shots are creepy AF

Outdated. Maybe 5 years ago. Ile de Hull with Ottawa across the river.

It is amazing that Montreal's skyline can be seen from so far away, but usually only from the South, Southwest and Southeast, as Mont Royal blocks the skyline from other vantage points.

I have identified the skyline from Vermont (Mt Mansfield, Jay Peak) and from New York State (Whiteface), and of course from Mont Owl's Head (Eastern Townships)

True.

Montreal's skyline will never win a SSP skyline award of the year. The skyline really shines when seen from above.

However I must say that the downtown has a long way to go, because as of now it is not close to being one of the most interesting neighbourhoods in the city.
