That's been up for months. They're at least two floors down in the hole now; the long arm excavator arrived on site this week.

Yeah they were doing weeks/months of drilling and some pile driving. Time to start digging I guess.

Anyone up for changing the subject of this thread to include NE false creek as well, with most of the SE and OV work complete?

There's a lot coming with PAVCO's projects, Concord, the new park, and the Plaza of Nations replacement.

I'd create a new thread. We arguably need ones for:

Across the alley from Margeurite Ford ain't so great though.

The ground floor spandrel really detracts from an otherwise decent looking building. Not sure why they would display the cheapest materials so prominently.

^^Not sure why they didn't at least go with dark spandrel there like the rest of the building? Heck, even seafoam green would be less bland. Also, why is there so much spandrel on the backside near the corners - like 25 feet of it... what could possibly warrant that?

Otherwise, the palette looks great, might be the sunset though. Quite rare to see such expense put into the soffit of every balcony. Also, someone explain the north-facing sun shades? lol

Agreed, the lower floors facing West 2nd don't look great, but it does look better now that the building is nearly complete. During construction it looked disjointed but now things seem to be coming together.

The building is clearly designed to draw people's attention to the north-facing side anyway. Overall it's turned out better than it looked like it would during construction.

Need more brick buildings like this.

West 2nd isn't too bad of a street now, with the usual coffee shops and banks, but some restaurants have set up there as well. The patio space gives restaurants an opportunity to dress up the premises. The Flying Pig at 127 West 2nd has done a decent job of making their place attractive, with large planters and their own canopy set in their colour scheme. It's a bit of a challenge to make these generic retail units look nice, as we see with Ophelia (down the street from The Flying Pig). The awful spandrel goes right down to street level, and really disrupts the look of the restaurant space there. I'm not sure why they couldn't change that spandrel to black, which is their theme. Too expensive maybe, or the building doesn't allow it?

I absolutely love that proposal. It different. We need different.

Hope it doesn't get watered down too much.

Also - kick who ever commented about 3 extra floors off the UDP. Were not Squamish, this isn't Vancouver 30 years ago. Move on with your lives people. Were not going back to SFH everywhere. This is so tiring.
