Amazing Toronto pic. I'm sure some people would be hard pressed to guess that this is Toronto.

Also, I don't think I ever saw a picture of Edmonton from that angle, with the stadium.

Great stuff.

The Great Lakes were a revelation to me. From afar, I think alot of people pass it off as a rather unremarkable shoreline. They're just lakes, right? In person, they're quite beautiful. You even get that much sought after turquoise coloured water in places.

It still blows me away that with a skyline that large, only 1.6 million people live in Calgary.

The last shot is looking west down Shuter at Sumach st, so the southern edge of Regent Park with the Trefann Court neighbourhood to the left: https://goo.gl/maps/GDs8yZKqBQMKpSwm6

Overall, Canadian and Australian cities punch over their weight. Calgary is an extreme case. Pound for pound, there are only a few places that out do Calgary. Dubai, maybe Gold Coast?

Unlike Gold Coast, Calgary doesn't even have the resort factor going for it to drive up the skyline in a big way.

Essentially 1/3 of those office buildings in Calgary currently sit empty nowadays though.

What is the office vacancy in other parts of the country?

On the flip side, Gold Coast doesn't even have the oil factor going for it. Oil builds skylines pretty well...

I think most of use tend to prefer skylines dominated by heftier office buildings compared to balcony-clad pencil towers though. That is where Calgary is king. Unfortunate that it may be awhile before we see another beauty go up.

Empty (more accurately, partially empty) buildings still count as part of a skyline, no?

Also, the City of Calgary has some pretty ambitious plans to incentivize the conversion of older office buildings to residential. If successful, it would radically alter the character of the CBD (for the better, I think).
