I also think it's hilarious that the same people who moan about viewcones only benefiting those travelling by car fall for the city's malarkey about "gateway towers" that are only really appreciated by car.
Just out of curiosity, how do you know they're the same people?

Couldn't people be both critical of the viewcone restriction policies (regardless of the justification behind their implementation, as to whom the views are meant to benefit most) while also simultaneously being skeptical of the City's narrative of the gateway towers?

I mean, it IS possible to hold two separate (and not even conflicting) thoughts in one's head.

All 4 buildings are being increased by about 100ft. I think the viewcone here is at 400ft. The tallest here is proposing to the max viewcone height.

I appreciate the redevelopment of the bridge area because it makes the area more walkable and introduces some pedestrian-friendly amenities like shops to a previously dead zone. If you really feel like the development benefits drivers then what do you have to complain about?

I wonder what's behind all these bitter comments you have regarding new developments.

lol @ Slum. I own 5 investment properties in the area and also Live there. It's one of the quieter areas in the Downtown. I go biking and walking late night when i can't sleep and the place is as quiet as can be.

It's not a slum now and will get better with more people on the streets.

Whatever happens next, it'll be infinitely better than an empty lot and a two-floor Black Cab depot.

The small heritage (?) building on the 800 block of Seymour that has/had the Hollywoood North karaoake place has an Arno Matis sign/notice on it. Anyone know if they are designing a project for the site?

Thanks - that'll be one to watch.
Does the site include the parking lot to the north or just the 2 small buildings?

The plan seems fine to me, nothing exciting and could be a bit more dense/tall. Keep buildings B&C shorter flanking Granville but boost up A&D. Likely a while off getting to a DP stage though.
Thanks for the info. The continuity is crucial for the businesses there to do well.

The developer is Bene Group, of Richmond. Not a long track record, but they've got a sizeable project (166 condos) called Times Square which I think is under construction. They had another site near The Oval, but sold it on to Landa last year.

Um, public school is FREE - the government funds us. Why would that contribute revenue to a swimming pool's budget?

And private schools are indeed loaded, as evidenced by how St George renovates and repaves practically every other year. But neither was counted in the study to begin with.

You must be having memory loss. Remember we were talking about International Students?

Your own link points out that K-7 is free of charge for international students - probably why (unlike UBC) international students cover less than 5% of the VSB budget, let alone the parks budget.

Almost every Metro Vancouver school district generates around 15% of their budget from international students.
