I was hoping they could be bold and do something to celebrate indigenous peoples. Which is why I liked the Eagles nickname. Certainly that is not bold, but changing the name Edmonton to its Cree name: Amiskwacîwâskahikan Eagles - would be bold. And would be awesome in my opinion. The club could have made a name for itself (pun intended) as the first professional sports team to do such a thing, which in turn could boost the league and team's profile, and would show that the club genuinely is breaking from the current paradigm. But yeah nah. Let's not piss off the old white guys. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks

They actually had this already for the Inuit people.
The term "Eskimo" is commonly used to describe Inuit and the Siberian and Alaskan Yupik, Iñupiat, and Chukchi peoples. "Inuit" is generally not accepted as a term for the Yupik and Chukchi, and "Eskimo" is often used as the term that applies across the Yupik, Chukchi, Iñupiat, and Inuit peoples.
This was never a slur...this name change was from a very small % of people wanting to be perpetual victims and having their little feelings hurt being over woke and sensitive.
The Edmonton Elks...lol.
