Nursing is only one of five departments of The Faculty of Health Sciences and they all will be consolidated at Lees. For the Fall of 2020 total faculty enrollment was 4095 undergrads and 795 graduate students. The School of Nursing had 1570 graduate and undergraduate students combined.

The other four departments are :

School of Human Kinetics
School of Nutrition Sciences
School of Rehabilitative Sciences

Looks good. If I were to have one complaint it would seem like a lost opportunity for a bit of height and residential (residence) along the river to be incorporated into the design. It would be nice to see the Lees campus used 24/7 instead of just during business hours. Some height would also open up some area for usable campus green space.

My guess is that Algonquin College has decided that they are no longer going to wait for the City to vacate the Transitway station’s land. Having the Health Sciences facilities closer to the University of Ottawa (for collaborative studies) and The Ottawa Hospital – General Campus is, likely, a better idea than putting those facilities in the west-end.

Algonquin College closed the Lees avenue campus in 2002 - and sold it all to UO in 2007, so I think this new building is entirely a UO project.

I believe some kind of Algonquin College health dept building is planned to go ahead eventually.

Doh. For some reason, I kept thinking of this as an Algonquin College ampus. You are absolutely right, it is now owned by uOttawa. Good on uOttawa for augmenting their Health Science facilities, then.

It is part of a three prong effort in Health Sciences and Medicine. Soon, uOttawa will start to build a new 250,000 square foot Medical Research Building near the Hospital Campus in Alta Vista. It is a partnership among uOttawa,The Ottawa Hospital,The Federal Gov't, and private enterprises that do research in health and medicine. The third prong is modernization of the Faculty Of Medicine building which is also in Alta Vista. A big investment in Health Science and Medical teaching and research in Ottawa. uOttawa has floated a $300 million dollars debenture ***for these projects(the debenture is all sold). The rest to come from govenment, grants , and private sources.

The university says that this type of building is not suitable for a tower above it because it will house sensitive science equipment for research and teaching purposes. The extra traffic that a high rise residence would bring is not good for the equipment.

However , this is only phase one of the redevelopment of the Lees site.There could be a phase 2 and a phase 3 , although years away. Towers could appear then. The footprint currently occupied by Block E would seem to be a suitable choice for a tower or two.

The completion date was originally Sept 2022. Now it is summer 2023.

It looks like the start of this project is way behind schedule as nothing much has been done yet.

It's called the "River Campus" now, no longer "Lees Campus".

Unless I missed something, there's nothing to improve access to Lees Station. I thought they had mentioned some sort of pedestrian bridge earlier. Lots of road to cross for students.

It was always the River Campus in the Campus Master Plan, but in every day speech most peeps call it the Lees Campus. Lees Campus seems to be the people's choice!

A couple of years ago it was announced that a lot of money would be spent to retrofit all five of the old buildings. There was a new link to the LRT stn. in the plan.
Now the plan has changed to demolishing three of the old buildings, building a new large building, retrofitting the other two and there is no mention of a new link to the LRT stn.

I guess I never noticed it was referred as "River Campus" before. I must have assumed it was always Lees.

Adding a pedestrian bridge isn't absolutely necessary, but I hope to see some effort in giving pedestrians and cyclists more priority in the entrance area.

Another addition to to uOttawa's health sciences and medicine programs. In 2023 they will start a French language School of Pharmaceutical Sciences to produce pharmacists. It will be the first one outside of Quebec. Across Canada there are ten pharmacy schools, including two French language ones in Quebec.

The new uOttawa pharmacy program will be located in the redesigned Roger Guindon Hall and the future advanced medical research centre (which will be a new 200,000 square foot facility at the Alta Vista Campus).

Week of July 19th - Relocation of the universal parking space from G1 and G2 to G3, north of Building E (as shown on the mobilization plan);
Week of July 19th - Relocation of the Protection Office in Block A;
Week of July 26th - Set-up fencing, signage, and site trailers;
Week of July 26th - When the fence is installed, G1 and G2 parking lots will no longer be accessible. G3 will be designated for permit holders and G4 for daily passes.
Week of August 2nd - Selective demolition inside the buildings (blocks B, C and D)
