Will not make any difference. They need al least 500 units to start.
Meth Heads and druggies that are not clean are welcome. The place with be a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 hole with in a few months. $170,000.00 a door for 200 square feet is a joke.
Someone is on the take. Should be under $50,000.00 a door.

So, to summarize:

1) It's going to be a disaster, but also, they need to do it at 10x the scale
2) The Pollards are somehow born yesterday, don't know the value of a dollar, and are paying >3x what it should cost

ok

Aren’t you a joy.

Isn’t the way you build 500 is to start with 50?

$50,000 per unit is ridiculous. Maybe in 1970.

The cost is reasonable. The project excellent. I agree that we need ten more.

There’s even some nice bike lanes in the area in case these people can’t afford the $12,000 per year it costs to own a car.

Seriously. You have to be desperately unhappy to 🞵🞵🞵🞵 on a project like this. There do need to be more, and if this one shows the success many of us assume it will, it will hopefully be easier to raise the funding to build more.

I'm assuming that programming to be provided at this residence forms a significant part of the cost? It takes more than bricks and mortar, there is a support element that is necessary to properly assist people and obviously that comes at a cost. It doesn't seem like the mafia is somehow skimming its share off the top while the Pollards helplessly watch from the sidelines...

I usually try to avoid blocking people here because even if I disagree with everything they say I'll never hate someone for having a different opinion than myself. Plus hearing other opinions is healthy, especially considering that this is a public forum.

However it's pretty clear that this guy has zero to actually contribute. For anyone that doesn't know the process:

- Click the user name
- Select "View Public Profile"
- Select "User Lists"
- Select "Add to Ignore List"

You'll be much happier not seeing what this guy posts.

Article in the Freep about 255 Princess. Highlight is that it's going to be called Soho Flats, because in London Soho is on the edge of Chinatown. Lol. Occupancy Jan/Feb 2022.

Grandiose names for ordinary apartments... a beloved Winnipeg tradition!

Cool to see a project get built there not that long after the Peace Tower building went up, though. I wonder if Logan is basically going to be the northern limit for this type of development activity?

You posed an interesting question so I did a bit of surveying via the Google and really it's all commercial/industrial North of Logan. So unless those businesses decide to sell and move, that may be as far as it goes. Can't really see it go right up to the tracks. We've been surprised in the past though.

I don't mind this attitude. Some buildings aren't stunners but they just add units and density in an inoffensive way.

I think Logan is going to be the cutoff and first lets fill up lots from Logan south to make the West Exchange bustling.
What I am liking is that lots surrounding most edges of Chinatown are filling up so perhaps we will see more action start in Chinatown especially on a high street as King Street is.
Also, having more & more residential will help existing eateries and grocers & foster new ones..

You figure that Chinatown has to start filling in soon since a lot of the low hanging fruit in that area has been taken up already, or is about to be (Marketlands). Some of those lots on King seem like prime sites. But I doubt that the new development will reinvigorate Chinatown so much as it will be replacing it.

Totally agree. They don't all have to be showstoppers. A lot of the buildings in great urban neighbourhoods are unremarkable, but they add up to way more than the sum of their parts.

I agree, it may be a while before we start to see more movement north of logan... I am ok with this, I am glad to see proposals in the north exchange.

However, centreventures plan for the area does have housing north of Logan in the northwest exchange concept plan (pg. 9)

So kind of like what is happening on Corydon.
Not really Little Italy anymore, mostly other cultural dining offerings.
As Chinatown, northwest exchange area starts filling up, all kinds of offerings, perhaps some will be Asian inspired eateries etc..
That would only boost the existing Chinese businesses and perhaps inspire a few more to open as there is a larger residential component and perhaps increased interest to shop eat visit and bring tourists there..

Pretty much. Corydon more or less ceased being Little Italy once sushi shops replaced all the Italian restaurants about 20 years ago. But that's fine, I think we would all rather see a prosperous "North Exchange" as compared to the sad shell of Chinatown that exists there today.

To the extent that there's a chinatown today, it would be the retail strip on Pembina between Bishop and Bairdmore. Many (most?) of the best Chinese restaurants, boba places, grocers, and businesses.

Yes, Pembina South sort of reminds me of Richmond, BC.
