Just something to think about. If the info I was looking at is correct, SLC has 12 towers that are 300 ft plus currently. If 8 of these likely towers are completed in the next 4 years we will have increased our towers of that height range by 2/3rds in about 5 years. It is highly likely that by the end of this decade we will have easily doubled the number of 300ft+ towers and at least one new tallest, maybe more? And on top of that the population additions to the core of downtown will also be an incredible addition to a more vibrant city. This is definitely going to be the golden age for SLC thus far.

How many of the 8 towers at 300+ have a crane in the ground today? I'm growing more skeptical about projects moving forward now but hopefully I'm wrong.

3 of the 8 towers are in the works, I guess Liberty sky isn’t 300’ though, so make it 2 of the 8

Gotcha, similar story where I live as well. Quite a few planned but only a few have actual cranes in the ground so far. Hopefully things get moving in there and here.

Unlike previous tower proposals, I'm pretty bullish on the prospects of nearly all - if not all - of them being built. The towers are being proposed by more serious and experienced developers, Utah is the fastest growing state in the country, and economically we whethered the pandemic as well as anywhere. And perhaps most notably, we already have had a few towers get built, and that shows that there is a market for it. Development begets development.

I put the odds like this

Kensington: 99.9%
Main street apartments: 85%
Worthington: 85%
West qtr 2: 75%
Sundial: 75%
370 S Main: 75%

This is all based on nothing but my (somewhat substantial) gut

West Quarter II is 100% getting developed as part of their larger project. Whether there is a high rise is more questionable given there are zoning issues, right? Did they ever get the D1 approved? Whatever it becomes it should turn out nice.

West Quarter 2nd Phase will happen. They received a zoning update, it is the same overlay that was used for the CCH height allowance. The max height is 375' for Phase 2.

The phasing was/is planned to be construction of the podium, residential high rise, residential low rise, and the hotel. Because the 2nd phase includes 1,000 parking spaces, paid for by the County, that will be used to supplement parking for the Convention Center, we know that this will happen.

The Commercial tower component has always been slated to be built when demand warrants. It was included in the master plan but wasn't planned to happen right away. The pandemic may speed up the need for the tower as many companies are looking to expand their office space as they start to bring people back to the office. There are also many new companies entering the downtown market.

If the original time table was still in play, I wouldn't expect the commercial tower to be started until 2026 or 2027. Now, with the accelerated growth we have been seeing downtown, I would not be surprised to see the commercial tower being included in the initial step for Phase 2 and the hotel possibly being pushed back or changed to an additional residential tower.

Currently in Miami so these update pics are amazing! Thank you PopPunk.

The Modern Display location on 700 east 400 south next to Trader Joes is relocating, so I’m assuming a new multi-family will pop up in a couple years, given the right buyer. Hopefully the Flats on 4 South project gets moving too.

Blah Amazing, I just caught this from the Reddit notification on my e-mail. I hope it's okay that I posted it I just couldn't resist. This is magnificent! I love the many projects that are including public art and this one in particular is going to be one of my favorites. I'm excited for these guys to finish up now with The Exchange and soon starting on the new mixed-use tower at 4th So. and West Temple. I think that will also be a very attractive addition to downtown and is sorely needed to move W. Temple forward.

I really dig the street frontage on Main and the mid-block walkway.

I will say that the amount of parking is a little egregious and definitely detracts from the design, especially given its location on the TRAX stop.
I agree 100% with this. It does look better, but still concerned about the overall width. I think Pickard Chilton has done a lot to mitigate the width with all of these chamfers. The parking structure isn't so great. I love the midblock connection and the wood looking slat soffit.

Also, an excellent tower construction video was posted to the subreddit. Some great views there, and a taste of how alive Main Street was last weekend when it was closed to cars. I went on Friday to some bars and had a great time.

Here's another one, showing more nightlife:
