I would expecte the SE corner (Safeway) to have been demolished already and being excavated (as well as the NE corner), but I haven't been by recently.
I went to the sale at the Bay, it was very busy, women's shoes and clothes still had a lot of stuff, but the men's shoes and clothes were pretty close to wiped out, not much left at all. A few homegoods but not much. All the cosmetics and fragrances are not included in the sale. Jewelry was almost all gone too.
Pretty shallow excavation!
Compared to Brentwood and Gilmore Place.
Maybe here really is an aquifer down there?
Three level parkade. I think they removed one level from the really old 2014 (?) design because of the aquifer. So it must be really shallow.
Also: I didn't know the whole deal about valet parking eliminating some of their parking requirements.
Quote:
As part of the previous discussions with City staff the valet strategy can
be pursued but the project is required to be able to be converted back
to a conventional parking layout with assigned stalls and still meet the
minimum provisions. The project will not be able to meet this minimum
conventional parking count due to the increase in density proposed but
will exceed it in the valet parking configuration. The rezoning proposes
an increase in the amount of rental and affordable rental units and a
decrease in market residential density. The Parking Bylaw does not
differentiate between market and rental uses although it is more likely
that rental will require fewer parking stalls. We ask that the City consider
the Valet as a viable and valid method of providing parking that will likely
be a model for developments in the future since it acknowledges the
rapidly evolving nature of personal transportation.
650 West 41st Avenue - DP-5 (Dining Hall / Meadow Gardens) DPB Meeting
Quote:
The Development Permit Board couldn’t find anything not to like when they approved Oakridge Centre’s “World Class” dining hall. However, a recommendation based on a Vancouver UDP member’s joke to make the tea house’s corner more “curvy swervy” wasn’t as well received.
It was also cautioned that providing even one less entrance from the street would fail to create a welcoming community. The walkable skylights in future phases should also provide transparency, unlike the debate about condition B.2.6 which was taken off camera.
Another Crane going up today along Cambie on site! Didn't get a shot of the erection! A view down Cambie from 41st these days looks like a sea of cranes all the way down to Marine Dr.
You know, in terms of the nature of expanding/redeveloping the mall into a municipal town centre, I believe its SkyTrain Canada Line station should probably be renamed from 'Oakridge-41 Avenue' to 'Oakridge Town Centre' to better reflect the area.
