It is. You can see the silt building up already. That whole channel on both sides of the gates could be filled in and create some usable riverfront space.

Looks like they are really packing the dirt in around the causeway gates to make sure there won't be any collapsing in the future; the concrete of the gates may rot and crumble but as others pointed out, they won't be going anywhere; or at least it won't go anywhere other than where the dirt goes normally. Proper vegetation should help shore up the future riverbanks to keep everything in place.

Be great if the Petitcodiac River Rapids stick around, but I suspect erosion and silt will make them short-lived; one day we'll all say 'remember when the river roared back in twenty-one?'...

This makes more sense than the answers we were getting. I found it odd that they would make a road on top of it. Didn't really make any sense to me. Good video.

They aren’t going to built the road on top of the bridge, but they are going to build it on top of the piers and the causeway gates.

I noticed one thing that they missed out on was the length of the bridge, when looking down river early in the video you can see the other bridge has 4 sections of cement piles and the ability for the river to really widen much more. The new bridge only has 2 sets of piles and A lot less space for the river to widen. I just feel like it was a missed opportunity and will limit the rovers ability to widen more.

Happy they did this, just felt like they could have made it a bit longer allowing for the river to get closer to it’s original self.

My sentiments exactly. But oh well, I never thought I'd see this project in my lifetime, so....

Exactly, it’s still a win, as the river can flow freely, just a missed opportunity with the bridge size.

It looks like the new road will be slightly higher than the previous one.

To me, the new bridge looks to be about twice as wide as the old bridge? The river just hasn't widened completely (maybe because they are still removing the construction access road)

The bridge will be both wider and longer. I believe the new bridge is about twice as long as the span of the old causeway gates. I agree with you, water flow will be enhanced, and the river will eventually be flushed out to a new width.

Could it have been better? Sure, but this will be a real improvement over what was there previously.

Major work being done at the Thrive Properties on Coverdale Road and they're making good progress. I've seen them working Saturdays and evenings. Last night I drove by between 8:30 and 9:00 and they were there doing excavation work.
