I mean, you could argue that they're only doing what should have been done in the first place over 100 years ago: lining the entirety of this wide boulevard with tall and majestic buildings.

Tall, yes; but not very majestic. The cluster at College & Spadina in particular have got to be some of the worst in the city.

I lived in Montreal while these were going up too. 1250 René-Lévesque was always going to ruffle fewer feathers due to its more traditional architecture. 1000 de La Gauchetière is jarring but I've come to appreciate it. 1000 de La Gauchetière is one of the best PoMo office towers North America built and adds to the architectural layering of downtown Montreal. It would be less interesting if it had been just another office building like the ones down the street.

In the 1960s people hated pre-War architecture. The current generation don't value 70s and PoMo architecture. In 20 years people will hate what we're building today. That's just how it goes.

Agreed. I wish the Bankers Hall twins here had gone with a more aesthetically pleasing roof feature like Le 1000. Would make them so much better.

I've always been a big fan of Bankers Hall and its roof. PoMo in general often produces interesting roof lines.
