Future schedules a few months out let alone over a year out are still quite meaningless. Canada still has a lot of work to do to get under control. 1000s of cases per day isn’t promising. Especially ON and AB. Sure that will eventually drop and people will get vaccinated but we are at the mercy of the rest of the world as well.
The only (most likely) indication are routes dropped altogether.
Based on what’s happening here two daily flights to Australia at this stage highly unlikely.
Still seeing plenty of foreign heavy traffic in and out of YVR on FR24... that’s exciting and welcome TK!

Well, at least Aug 2022 seems like a reasonable target date to start tracking again. Hopefully the virus would be under control for most countries, by how the vaccination is going right now. Got to start somewhere and have a schedule saved as a reference point (the last reliable one I got was S19 or W18 due to MAX grounding).

At least now we know which routes AC are still committed, and which routes they gave up already.

Jetblue's A220's are built in Mobile, Alabama.

Yeah I would avoid Air Canada but Aeroplan is centred in Vancouver. I’m not from Ontario which is the only Canada... as everyone knows.

Although truth be told I think Quebec is more “Canadian” than BC by a long shot.

I’d LOVE to see TAP come here. More Aeroplan options please!

Yeah I’m a bit doubtful of the market for YVR-Portugal flights.

Lisbon is a pretty major hub though for Europe with connectivity to plenty of smaller cities and decent connections to Africa.

Even if it's a seasonal route I think a flight to Rome would do quite well. With WestJet eventually wanting to start flying to Rome from Calgary, It'd be nice if AC or another carrier to fly such route to compete with WestJet.

Also a longshot but I'd love to see a connection to South America from YVR. If it's timed correctly with flights to and from Asia, It'd probably would be a game changing route for the PNW region and make YVR stand out against SEA.

I'd like to agree on both counts. If Westjet or AC would try YVR -ROME even a summer seasonal to begin with, and see how it goes, I betcha it could develop into year-round, especially if it took in Seattle pax.

And yes, keeping abreast of Seattle is critical so as not to et ecliped by SEA-TAC. LIMA is a growing airport with great connections. SCL is a good economy. Maybe later, GRU.....

I don't count TS routes, sorry, I know they did a YVR-ROM before but it was like a half-win, I don't put those kinds of flights in the same category, they are almnost charter-ish.

AC "dropping" SNA is kind of a misnomer, did they ever even start the route? I thought they announced it would start but then it didn't? I could be wrong!

TPE and CDG are at least routes that others servce, including BR on TPE, which is * alliance and AC cooperates with. The silver lining on AC dropping CDG is that it will hopefully help bolster AF on the route. I would take a stronger AF (with continuation to PPT) anyday over AC on the route, if it was a matter of choosing one or the other. It would be good to have both do the route, but silver linings, you know

Ya I would rather do Air France to France than anyone else. When in Rome.

AC announced it but didn't actually started it. Actually, AC still holds the SNA slot as of the beginning of this year, so if they still not started it by S22, that probably means they've given that up.

Still a bit sad about TPE though... AC was selling it for $600 R/T, compared to $1200 from BR/CI before AC entered the market. As my family probably take 5 round-trips a year, AC means huge saving. But I guess that's why even though most of the flights are packed before the cancellation, they aren't making that much money on the route.

For anyone interested here are the actual financial reports.

https://www.yvr.ca/en/about-yvr/leadership-and-accountability/2020-annual-and-sustainability-report

The $254M is a partial write down on the cost of the half done building expansion. The argument being they don't expect to need those projects restarted for the next couple of year due to low demand. We will see if that is true or not this time next year.

Crazy how expensive it was to cancel a project that is already well underway. Was it really worth it and will they take a similar hit this year?

i would like to believe they did a review and made the better financial decision. generally YVR is considered well run so i think they'd have done their research.
