Ehhh, I'm not sure any angles about BCLC and casinos will stick badly to Eby.

Yeah it sounds like opposition supporters trying to stir up controversy and make the NDP look as corrupt and incompetent as they were, especially as the NDP is about to score the political home run of cutting everyone’s car insurance bills. Pretty transparent if you ask me.

Only BC Liberal partisans were retweeting that Mulgrew column, and it wasn't getting any traction. In fact Sam Cooper, who has been one of the journalists at the forefront of reporting on money laundering, called the column birdcage liner and said we would see quite a bit more detail coming out of the commission shortly that would effectively debunk the testimony of someone who has motivation to salvage his own reputation.

Either way, all those BC Liberals frantically trying to breathe oxygen into the story were overdoing it -- making an argument that can be easily interpreted as "money laundering isn't a big deal" is not a good look. Eby will be just fine.

Watching Bonnie Henry and Dix get grilled by the media yesterday was a treat to see. It took 14 months, but people are finally seeing how inept the government has been at every turn.

They refuse to listen to medical expert and third-party scientists. They go at their beat. Many medical experts were pleading for a mandatory mask mandate and Bonnie finally caved in after 9 months. Then experts suggested high rates of transmission in workplaces, and she kept denying this until recently but has offered no further guidance or restrictions.

Both Bonnie Henry and the provincial NDP have stated there will be no restrictions despite data suggesting that there's a growing concern about the P1 variant in the Lower Mainland. They keep openly lying or withholding data from the public.

COVID-19: Experts say variants likely make up at least 40% of B.C.'s cases, double what officials have disclosed
Several prominent epidemiologists say B.C. is drastically undercounting variants of concern, which could lead to public complacency

My understand of that matter is that there were concerns of insufficient supply of PPE for healthcare workers when COVID first started up, and they therefore played down the need for the public to wear facemasks.

Gee, it's almost like the government has to balance public health without turning the economy into a smoking crater in the ground.

That was only at the beginning of the pandemic. I think he's referring to the point when there was readible supply of non-surgical masks and they kept trying to say that it might stigmitize all the people who wouldn't know better to wear a mask.

Ah yes. What an insane argument that was: "it discriminates". I roll my eyes just as much when someone tries to argue that vaccine passports are inherently discriminatory and therefore unacceptable.

Those arguments do a disservice to real discrimination.

People who chose not to get vaccinated should get enrolled into a random testing schedule for COVID until the pandemic is under control. Seems like a fair trade off.

Yeah and a sensible approach would be to be proactive and preserve economic activity instead of heading towards another round of restrictions after spread has happened.

A few months too late. Amazon has been hit a dozen times. Some workplaces were really relaxing their protocol after the summer. You look at downtown and compare to 1 year ago, it's silly how many offices ended remote working.

there was a point last summer where there was 20 some odd new cases a day in BC and about 220 new cases in all of canada

that's going to cause some people to relax.

It’s impossible to address every COVID rumour. But when Adrian Dix was asked today if a lockdown of businesses is coming Monday the answer was direct and simple. “No.” Richard Zussman, Global BC

What's more politically damaging? Money laundering or gangsters shooting people in the middle of the day at a shopping mall?

I would say political correctness and the fear of being labeled racist due to pointing fingers at any group of people that may be involved.

I totally get where you're trying to go with this, and until any racial component is established for these crimes, why try to make this into a racial thing? I thought playing identity politics was something you'd point fingers at the PC police for

In the words of my socially conservative father, "Do you think IHIT should look the other way and let them all just kill each other?"

As much as this is a huge problem, I don't think most people really care that much politically until innocents start getting caught in the crosshairs, see the Surrey Six.

Generally pretty clear who is getting targetted in these hits. Sure, there is a very slight chance an innocent bystander gets killed but nowhere near the negative impact that rampant unaffordability has on Vancouver.

They're joining gangs because they can't afford a single family homes?

It is well known this this has evolved into a desi gang affair in the Lower Mainland where killings are being carried out by South Asian males between the ages of 15-40 right now. Right now, little is being done in the school system and in the communities where kids are being recruited to carry out "grunt work" for high profile gangsters.

Just like how the 90's ushered in a deadly wave of gang activity that was primarily involving Vietnamese gangs or the 60's brought a wave of Russian and Italian gang activity. It was well known that the VPD would stake out communities and potential hot spots back in the day but the RCMP in Surrey are taking a hands off approach due to the fear of backlash from communities.

The community in Surrey has attempted to bring attention to this which of course, drew no response from any level of government. I seen how easy it is for someone to get peer pressured into that lifestyle and how hard for them to get out of it. You're pretty much involved by virtue of having an uncle, brother, cousin, or friend. It's only a matter of time before innocent people get caught in this. In fact, it sounds like someone did.

Unless you're recommending the RCMP stake out every single South Asian community in the Lower Mainland, I'm not exactly sure what solution you're trying to imply by pointing out the race of the offenders.
