Fairfield Residential is proposing to demolish the InTown Suites at 1944 Piedmont Circle and build 392 apartments. A roughly 500-space parking deck is also planned.

Fairfield needs the OK from the Beltline Design Review Committee before it can start the redevelopment. The committee will be tasked with preserving a piece of Atlanta history — stone stairs on the site of the new apartments that once led to the home of Edwin Plaster.

The steps and historical marker are located where a new sidewalk for the apartments would go.

Rockefeller Group is sending a clear message about its plans to redevelop a Midtown post office.

The U.S. Postal Service says it will move from its spot on West Peachtree Street as its lease is expiring and a new agreement could not be reached. The announcement comes about 10 months after Rockefeller Group paid $25 million for the 1.1-acre site that includes the post office and a parking deck.

In real estate terminology, the New York developer paid just over $500 per land square foot. Only a handful of prime development sites in the city have sold for that much.

From Twitter there is a new proposal for the Kodak building on Ponce. The neighborhood is said to be opposed to the proposal.

LOL of course they're opposed. Hard to see them liking anything other than a 5-6 story building.

The opposition may have more to do with preserving the Atlanta Eagle than the architectural style or height.

From what I heard it was mostly the height they have issue with. Not surprising, as it was the same issue with the height for the previous proposals of the medical building just across the street to the west of this site.

IMO, great design for the tower and the height is appropriate. Ponce and North Ave could easily sustain 6-12 story towers between Midtown and the east side trail. And as we see at PCM’s residential proposal and 725 Ponce offices, there’s a demand for the additional density.

Question - when you say "the neighborhood is opposed" what does that mean? What forum was used to provide that feedback? And to whom? Was there a developer meeting? It hasn't been on the DRC or NPU meetings yet, and nothing from Midtown Alliance or any other similar body.
I ask because those of us that are YIMBY for good development need to have a strong voice in these things too.

The article below details more aspects such as Midtown Neighbors’ Association. You can follow back ongoing discussions with MNA and the city’s urban design commission, as well as Historic Atlanta having discussions for this particular parcel. As for the medical building site across the street to the west, I presume it was MNA that killed the denser proposals.
