Hmm! The long vacant block of Crown between Princess and Leinster finally sold yesterday for $114K. 14,500 sq. ft. or so. I think it came with plans for 12 townhouses, but I may be mistaken.

Good to see someone lining up a reasonably big project in a relatively quiet corner of uptown.

The Telegraph has a stop work order on it. The approved windows were Aluminum clad from either Martin, LePage or Marvin. Instead they installed aluminum clad PVC windows by LaFlamme and they don’t have the transoms. Also alterations to railings, entry ways and street level commercial windows. I know massive development like this hasn’t happened in a while, but there seems to be a disconnect when it comes to approved plans not being followed and the city learning about it after the fact (The AtTINtic as another example). Maybe developers should provide city with proof the proper materials are ordered instead of finding out after installation. Process needs to be tightened. Looks like heritage committee will approve the alterations and work will continue.

The 300 Sydney St project developer is an experienced developer from B.C. - so hopefully no issues with them. Be 110 construction jobs for 2 years. $36M to build; $660K annual taxes; cement fibre cladding, not metal

Not only is the ground level façade much improved, but the floor plans show it will incorporate commercial spaces on the first floor and residential "suite/loft" apartments on the second. Definitely a major upgrade.

Truly massive improvement, the streetscape was the weakest element of the proposal and would have isolated everyone from the beauty of Tin Can Beach. This way the street interaction is maintained and paves the way for future development on the street.

Are Council meetings still happening with the election coming up? IIRC they are, but without much 'power'. Maybe the developer is holding off until the new council. I am working on a project and City staff advised I hold off until the new council is in place.

in the common council packet is an agreement for Percy Wilbur’s corporation to utilize portion of South Market, Charlotte and King Streets for the demolition of the Woolworth’s and Taste of Egypt buildings. The agreement is for four months commencing May 17th

Apparently PAC is cool with the metal siding at The Atlantic. Their justification is 'there's ugly buildings around that use it'. Weak. Nice to see 5 letters in opposition including my own. They literally call it 'contemporary design' and reference, insanely, wood to vinyl siding conversion positively.

Just to clarify your post - it’s the city staff that are OK with it. PAC will consider their uncharacteristic opinion and vote on it
