I'm kind of surprised they'd want student housing fronting the busy streets.

Also the wording made it sound like there would be next to no washrooms: "99 beds in a semi-suite unit that includes a shared washroom with the adjacent semi-suite." My first thought was that's 99 bedrooms and 1 bathroom (vs 2 suites sharing a bathroom).

When I first read it I thought it was saying there would be 1 bathroom for 99 bedrooms - now that would lead to some pretty long lineups!

Really incredible bit of planning to have a tower development that faces away from a Skytrain station. There's definitely things to like about Suter Brook but the way it interacts with the area around it is just brutal. Hoping Port Moody does better with the giant development coming on the other side of Ioco.

Suter Brook predates the Evergreen Line by several years. I think that when the plans for the community were approved, it was still an LRT line at that point. Furthermore, it's difficult to see from this overhead shot, but there is a significant change in elevation between the vacant lot and the rest of Suter Brook.

Plus I'm pretty sure that the owner is different for that lot as well, so any sort of meaningful direct connection to the station might prove pretty difficult.

IIRC the original plan for the Evergreen Line would've sent it down Ioco and Guildford Way, meaning Newport and Suter Brook would've been right beside it; it goes without saying that the plan changed.

Also looks like the newest Suter Brook towers don't include the land fronting Ioco Rd:

Edit - Translink might own that parking lot:

I wonder if TransLink would look at developing that property eventually. If they were to do so, one would think they'd ensure a good ped connection to Suter Brook.

Got an ad today for "VUE" by Amacon.

https://amacon.com/vue/

Looks to be the launch of their site at 633 North Road described here:

https://www.tricitynews.com/real-estate-...oquitlam-building-burned-in-fire-3118165

No new renderings or info yet, but good to see another site on that strip moving forward.

I was in Port Moody this past Saturday and my God is there a lot of development ongoing! I had no idea so much was happening in Port Moody as it must have been only last summer I was there the last time. It is really transforming the small locale and for example the two towers by the station are rising fast as seen in the aerial.

Also, every second lot along Clarke Road between Burquitlam and Port Moody seemed to be for sale.

That looks great, density wise. It could be a spandrel mess.

I just love it how casual a 50-floor tower proposal in the suburbs has become!

Yeah. What would be crazy is if something like this was proposed in Vancouver along Cambie or Broadway!

Now that's just crazy talk. We all know that tall towers like that would shadow the fish living in False Creek or raccoons living in Downtown parks.

Maybe we should start advertising tall towers as a means for providing shade for tent cities in the parks, that way the sun won’t wake up the homeless early in the morning!
