I get the sentiment, but is there any rule saying first off can't be a forward, replaced by a d-man. That way last off (d-man who has puck possession), can pass to a fresh d-man to coordinate the next attack? The only time you should throw the puck away is under sever pressure from the opposition with no other options available.
Too often I see a d-man, with no nearby pressure, dumping the puck.
