Great shots! I saw it approaching across the strait but it didn't look like it was going to ramp up so went to bed and missed the whole show.

It's pretty rare for us to get electrical storms. It didn't even rain downtown (at least not near me), but a friend said it rained in South Vancouver.

Snow! We got a little snow shower mid-afternoon in downtown. It accumulated a bit and then about 30-40 minutes later it was gone.

Family Day long weekend brought a cold snap on the west coast and snow cover all of Metro Vancouver for the second time this winter.





With the fresh weather we went walking in New Westminster's Queen's Park.















This large park is popular with many families and the weather was perfect for having fun in the snow.





On Sunday it was snowing even harder as we went for another walk around Central Park here in Burnaby.







Old and new towers in the Metrotown area.









The final tower of the massive Station Square complex is going to be soon topped out.









The brief snow we got will be gone in next few days as the weather has again turned to seasonal warmer temperatures.

Almost exactly 2 months after above snow picture the weather couldn't be any different this week! Saturday was still a windy day up on Burnaby Mountain and it was both sunny and snowing on the North Shore Mountains.







On Sunday Steveston was packed with people as everyone wanted to see the cherry blossom.







Temperatures this week are pushing almost summer figures!



Warm weather means of course start to the barbeque season!





Everywhere trees are pushing new leaves. Here are few shots from shores of Fraser River from today.

Although the climate of Vancouver is officially Cfb (Köppen classification) West Coast Marine, theoretically parallel to southern England, the continental land effect is much more pronounced,
hence late winter sudden cold snaps, and spring and summer heat waves.
Paris also can get hot (25°C) weather in April, only to fall back again to chilly 12°C days and 4°C nights. Summers there regularly see 35°C weather, sometimes hitting over 40°C.

Almost two weeks of sunshine and warm temperatures is coming to an end but man, was it nice this past weekend! Temperatures in many places hit around +25C and so on Saturday we drove down to Aldergrove to check out a nice and quiet park just by the American border.





Aldergrove Regional Park nice park with several walking trails in what was quickly becoming a green oasis.







A huge lonely boulder is the remnant of the last ice age.



Much of the park used to be a gravel pit which has since been decommissioned and is now covered with grass. The top of the ridge offers some really nice views of the snow-capped mountains in the distance.









We have never spent a lot of time in Aldergrove, so it was a nice trip out of the busy city. The next day we got out for another picnic, this time in Coquitlam. Como Lake Park is a small, yet popular park in the middle of a residential area.







The lake itself is small but very pretty. Walk around it is highly recommended!















For those looking for some shade from the sun, the nearby Mundy Park provides nice and cool trails. Our visit there was very brief and we will need to come back again.





Ah, spring is such a beautiful time here on the West Coast and after few days of rain the sun should be back soon again.

Hot enough for ya?

My husband and I have checked into the Sandman Hotel downtown for 5 nights.

It's just a 5 minute walk from our apartment but man, it's nice to chill out in some air conditioned space. We'll be back and forth as needed. It's 33 C in our apartment right now.

We're not even particularly exposed to the direct sun very much as our windows face NW but it's just not going to cool down at night.

At the moment the Weather Network's forecast for Vancouver Harbour is up to 40 C on Monday with a humidex of 47.

Just be glad you're not in Portland right now. Currently 42 C there (according to the Weather Network). On Sunday they're supposed to have a high of 47 C and a low of 27 C.

We've resolved to finally buy a portable air conditioner as soon as they might be in stock again in the stores. Can you imagine a future heat wave like this with wildfire smoke?

Portland is essentially an inland location, a better direct comparison to them is not downtown Vancouver but the eastern burbs of Van and the Valley where it was 39 today and is forecast to reach over 40 this week.

The humidex thing is real. I’ve been in Kamloops with these kinds of temperatures, and it is not so bad, but in Vancouver, it starts to feel like Indonesia or something. Tomorrow and Monday might be that bad.

I know the difference in heat / humidity that you mention in Kamloops and Vancouver. But first, try Montreal in summer. Icky sticky hot. Worse, go to East Asia. Seoul and Tokyo are brutal.

Seoul can get nasty for a couple of weeks a year, but you can still see days in the high 20s. So far, this year has been a cakewalk.

Shanghai and Taipei though? There's no such thing as an easy summer there. It's brutal day after brutal day.

Worth noting that it's a forecast for the region, not Vancouver specifically; Environment Canada says 31-32.

The forecasts seems to be all over the place, so I am waiting to see official measurements after the next few days. But I wouldn't be surprised if we would be breaking several records, as it is pretty damn hot right now!
