No problem!! Glad there's people out there that are interested & I agree, can't wait to see the pools for Virgin Hotels or ResortsWorld (they're supposed to have like 9)

EDIT: Yes! Finally got a new page going lol

My pleasure!

Speaking of, here's an update on that new municipal courthouse across from city hall. There's supposed to be a new park going up right next to this soon, hopefully.

Clark County

I went up to the nearby mountains the other day to snowboard. I was able to grab these photos of the new Hillside Lodge at the Lee Canyon Ski Resort that was completed recently. For those who might not be familiar, Lee Canyon is in the Spring Mountains directly west of the Las Vegas Valley. It features a ski resort that operates 3 lifts (which isn't the biggest, but for being surrounded by desert you can't complain). The resort itself sits about 50 min northwest of Downtown Las Vegas / 1 hour from the Strip. The base of the resort sits at an impressive 8510 ft in elevation (About 6500 ft above the desert floor below), and gets 129 inches of snow annually. The new lodge was built to accommodate the growing number of visitors to the area seeking outdoor recreation and includes a heated terrace, patio dining space, bistro, expanded restroom facilities and a ski-in, ski-out bar. It also has an event space for meetings, weddings and other special events.

And just because I know there are people that might not be aware of the outdoor opportunities surrounding Las Vegas, here's some more photos I took that day of the area that don't include new development. Las Vegas is so much more than just the strip & downtown.

Thank you for posting these photos. I had no idea there is skiing within an hour of Las Vegas. That seems like a great opportunity for an affordable ski weekend. I would think there are plenty of cheap hotel rooms in Las Vegas in January and February.

Is there any mountain biking there in the summer?

You can mountain bike at Mount Charleston (same location where the snow pictures were posted). There is also mountain biking at Red Rock and I'm pretty sure Valley of Fire too.

Before I moved to Vegas I also thought Vegas was only The Strip and nothing more. It wasn't until after I moved here I realized Vegas is a lot more than that and has a lot more to offer. Mount Charleston (where the skiing / snowboarding photos were taken) is about 30 minutes from my house and has a max elevation of almost 12,000 feet. I go hiking there often.

I've seen some videos of people biking in that area, probably using the hiking trails. However I've seen a couple articles about the actual resort wanting to add some for summertime, however there's some pushback from local environmentalist about protecting a certain species of butterfly.

Besides Lee Canyon theres tons of hills surrounding the Las Vegas Valley that make for some amazing mountain biking/hiking.

I had a similar impression of Vegas before I moved here...Little did I know how close in proximity it is to world-class hiking, national/state parks, natural hot springs, and vast open spaces with dark skies perfect for stargazing. Death Valley NP, Zion NP, Red Rock, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Spring Mountains, Sloan Canyon, Cathedral Gorge SP, Mojave National Preserve, and Grand Canyon West are some of the ones that came to mind.

I'll add to the discussion about awesome natural places just outside Las Vegas. The last several times we have vacationed in Vegas, we have spent the days outside the city proper--especially in the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area (well worth the driving tour!) and more recently, the Mt. Charleston area. The last time we were there in late August 2019, we hiked the Little Falls trail to Little Falls, which was still flowing in the peak of the summer. The air is fresh, the trees smell good, the hiking is good for anyplace, and it's sooo much cooler up that high than it is down on the valley floor. I took a couple pics back in the before times:

Looking out at what I assume are wintertime ski chalets from the Echo/Little Falls trail:

Looking up a steep part of the Little Falls trail:

Beautiful shots! That's exactly where I plan on escaping to when those 110+ degree days hit lol. Gonna have to add that trail to my list.

FAA says proposed hotel near Las Vegas airport wouldn't be hazard to planes

$3B high capacity transit system proposed for Charleston Boulevard

By Mick Akers
Las Vegas Review-Journal
April 12, 2021

"A local company is looking into the possibility of constructing a high-capacity transit system along Charleston Boulevard that could cost as much as $3 billion to build out.

Axios Nevada LLC. and the city of Las Vegas entered into an exclusive negotiation agreement to discuss the viability of the project, which would be privately owned and operated. That agreement, approved by the city council last week, is good for two years after which Axios would present its final plan for the corridor, according to Las Vegas Councilman Brian Knudsen.

Knudsen said there are several transportation modes being considered by Axios and he wasn’t aware if there is a preferred one at this time. However, the agreement with the city specifically lists light rail as the mode tied to the $2 billion to $3 billion cost estimate..."

Why not fund that line proposed by RTC from the Airport to DT/UMC via Maryland instead? The Feds will help pay for it. Having lived in LV for 22 years, I really don't understand the reasoning behind the Charleston line.

To the West, it terminates in downtown Summerlin?
