I wonder how long it will be for the panhandlers to discover this restored pedestrian traffic point. Before it closed it seemed that there was almost a permanent squalid encampment in front of those red railings.

Translink police probably just asked them to leave for better photo-ops during the relaunch of the escalators. Sooner or later they will be back because CoV does nothing to enforce City street-loitering bylaws. I always feel sorry for the Bay, and think their business would probably be a lot better if they have more welcoming and clean frontages. Same thing can be said about Army and Navy, which was in a way worse situation than the Bay.

With that said, I think I will get down here and then test the brand new escalator up leading to Granville Street on my way to work tomorrow: cheap thrills I know.

Would have been nice if they had used the closure to install a lighted art work on the curved ceiling.
But it does look cleaner in the pics.

The Buzzer Blog - Waterfront Station Expo Line access to close on August 8–9

Quote:
Access to and from the Expo Line at Waterfront Station will be closed on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9 to accelerate maintenance work while there are fewer people on the system. Access to the Expo Line at Waterfront Station will reopen at the start of service on Monday, August 10.

...

Waterfront Station will remain open for Canada Line and SeaBus service. Signage and staff will be present at Waterfront, Burrard and Granville stations to help guide customers to their destination.

Does anyone know about work being done on Edmonds Station? They added a small container outside the station last week and today I saw a couple workmen out on the roof / canopy. I know track maintenance is happening near the station and that they're planning on doing some kind of upgrades eventually - but I couldn't find anything current.

There's not much to paint (and if anything they just need to do a thorough cleaning). There's a porta potty set up now too.

Remember they were planning on unveiling free WiFi on the system:

Quote:
Starting in 2020, TransLink riders – whether or not they are Shaw customers – will be able to stay connected for free throughout their commute on bus, SkyTrain, or SeaBus.

I've seen workers on the roof / canopy but today I happened to see them on the overhead walkway within the station just as they were about to go out on the inbound platform roof and stopped to ask them.

TransLink planning major redesign and expansion of Burrard Station (RENDERINGS)
https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/skytrain-burrard-station-new-plaza-capacity-upgrades

Quote:
A new vertical circulation to reach the ticketing concourse from Burrard Street would be built to the north, closer to Dunsmuir Street — next to the existing elevator entrance. This new portal would have a staircase, two escalators, and a bank of two new replacement elevators within a new elevator shaft.

The pitched glass canopy of Burrard Station would be extended to the sidewalk for this new replacement portal, which provides an escalator for each up and down direction as opposed to the existing portal’s up-only escalator.

...

Currently, there is a bank of three escalators between the ticketing concourse and the underground mezzanine level where the fare gates are. A new additional bank of three escalators would be built immediately to the south, below the planned sloped plaza — on the footprint of the existing escalator and staircase from Burrard Street. This would increase the number of escalators between the ticketing concourse to the mezzanine level to six, doubling the existing design.

Ugh. If investing so much money, make it look modern. This is as middle of the city as it gets and there is nothing worth saving about the current structure.

It's supposed to look like a greenhouse in a garden setting.

That’s awful. Why would they want it to look like that
