Yes. Oops. It's more like 0.06% of their entire population.

I was booked on the LH direct flight from AUS-FRA on May 30th, 2021. That flight was cancelled. They do have a direct flight from IAH on that day. I looked online at Lufthansa's schedule and the website shows the direct AUS-FRA flight resuming June 2, 2021.

I don’t know of any new DL routes for AUS but I would think they would add frequencies first before adding new routes, just my opinion though.

Just spotted two Anatovs at ABIA around 1030-1035am, next to each other. One White with blue stripes one gray or green type. Not sure if parking or taxing. I was driving on 183S coming up on McKinney Falls Pkwy.

Some snippets from the Meeting of the Airport Advisory Commission on March 9, 2021:

• Lufthansa further suspended service until June 2 but tentatively plans to serve AUS with 3/wk A330-300 with255 seats
• Allegiant announced new service to Bozeman (BZN) starting May 27 and Fayetteville (XNA) starting July 2
• Alaska will start service to LAX with one daily frequency on March 18, increasing to three on May 20; AS will also reinstate service to PDX on March 18; third frequency to SAN will start in June
• American will reinstate service to LAX & PHL on March 4, JFK on April 3 and will serve MCO on Saturdays in
March, April and early May
• Spirit will reinstate ATL service in April
• Delta will reinstate service to BOS on March 2 and reinstated RDU service on February 11
• Hawaiian will start nonstop service to HNL with 278-seat Airbus A330 aircraft twice weekly effective April 22(AUS departures on Thursday and Sunday)
• JetBlue will start new service to CUN on March 4 and started service to RDU & SFO on February 11; American will codeshare on JetBlue service to JFK
• Air Canada and British Airways further suspended service until May 1; the U.S.-Canada border will remain closed until at least March 21
• Norwegian has discontinued all longhaul flying therefore will not serve LGW nor start CDG in 2021
• KLM will not serve AUS in 2021 but possibly 2022

DL making gains:

AUS capacity shares by airline in March 2021 are very similar to March 2020 except in the case of Delta, who has reduced capacity less than other carriers on average. Some airports have witnessed significant fluctuation in carrier shares pre- and post-COVID but the same cannot be said for AUS. Southwest and American are still the two largest
carriers based on seat share, yet Delta is catching-up to American, and Delta has maintained its commitment to operate a focus city at AUS. Delta’s capacity in March is only down 19% YOY, making it the third fastest carrier to restore capacity after Allegiant and JetBlue.

Excellent find. Thanks for posting.

I'd expect the European flights to be pushed off again. Unless things change over there (with regard to COVID), I don't see them opening up anytime soon.

Regarding DL...they maintained the policy of not selling middle seats longer than any other legacy airline. Thus, their capacity numbers took a larger hit than, let's say, American (who never cut capacity on operating routes - selling the entire plane with no regard to maximizing social distancing).

Yeah, I'm fully vaccinated in about 3 weeks (same day rescued a shot that was going to be thrown away about a 90 minute drive from here) and the thought occurred to me to go check out some of the F1 calendar and work remote like I've done in the past, and uh.. they are almost all in full curfew lockdown still. Getting in and out of most foreign countries is extremely difficult to do. The places that will let you travel are the places that took this not very seriously at all. Its different country to country, but I think those of us in the US don't understand that Covid for most of the world is going to be a thing for 6-24 months beyond the point where vaccines are easy to obtain here.

I mean, if I was unvaccinated and waiting until Fall to go out of my home I would likely not want a bunch of vaccinated Americans running around trying to party either, so fair enough.

The UK may be the only exception to this (which I agree with). The pace of vaccination there is on par, or slightly ahead, of the U.S.

Yeah, the UK seems most likely to reopen soonish, but they have a mandatory ~10 days quarantine with testing and to this point being vaccinated does not change that.

In any case, to keep this on topic, I think airlines are guessing at when travel will

1) have sufficient demand
2) be legally feasible to a given location

France just re-entered a pretty severe lockdown on domestic travel within France. For airport watchers, it may be late this year or even 2022 before Trans-Atlantic or Trans-Pacific flights start looking more normal.

Ironically, the demand may be coming from foreigners wanting to get into the US as many states don't have any sort of quarantine policy. I think the US may become a vacation destination over the next 6 months as you only need to quarantine upon return home.

Your data is incorrect. The UK is way behind the U.S. in fully vaccinated individuals and is not going to catch up anytime soon.

U.S.:
~148 million doses given
~53 million fully vaccinated (this number is equivalent to about 80% of the entire population of the UK - if the UK had this many fully vaccinated they would have achieved herd immunity).
The U.S. is providing roughly 1.8 million shots a day.

UK:
~34.5 million doses given
~3 million fully vaccinated
The U.K. is providing roughly 400,000 shots a day.

Texas:
~12 million doses given
~4 million fully vaccinated
The Texas is providing roughly 250,000 shots a day.

It's going to be late 2022 or sometime in 2023 before we see "normal" international traffic across the world.

Look, I don't want to get into the semantics, cause no one wins in those instances in an online message board, but the doses per 100k pop are roughly the same, according to Bloomberg.

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/covid-vaccine-tracker-global-distribution/

UK, 26.2% population coverage
US, 23.1% population coverage

The numbers you provide reflect the UK's unique, but proven correct strategy of delaying the second dose up to 12 weeks in order to get the most people at least some protection against the disease. As it stands, the UK has given a first does to 46.3% of its population and greater than 50% of its adult (18+) population. Second doses have lagged, as that is the strategy. Look to see that catch up this month, as Matt Hancock and Boris Johnson have both suggested. By the metrics that matter, e.g. new cases, hospitalizations and death, the UK is undeniably in a better place than the US today.

The larger point, which I'm sure you understood but chose to turn into a 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 contest, is that amongst places where European travel might return, the UK seems to be on track to be first.

I don't disagree with your contention that late 2022 is likely a safer bet for wide-spread normality in cross-border traffic.

I wish it wasn't such a 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 airline. Has their safety and maintenance improved in the last couple years?

You were seeing a USAF C17 parked to an Antonov AN-124 on the Maint Ramp. Haven't had two on the ramp at the same time, yet.

Phew, thought they were gone for good. I think they were planning on returning earlier last year but it never happened.

E190s to Mexico and Canada! I like the fact they're both (at one point) flown by the same plane.

I am already taking my chances this summer since I am fully vaccinated. Booked a r/t flight to Iceland where the CDC vaccination card is all you need for entry (hopefully by late July, they are going faster with their vaccinations) and a week working remotely in Oaxaca.
