I wouldn't expect ground breaking design in Kelowna towers for years yet.

That's also not a bad thing. By the time its profitable to build a starchitect tower the city is going to be a very different place, and not necessarily a better place.

I don't think that Montreal's current boom has even attracted starchitect towers yet...

Really, Kelowna has put up some fairly high-quality towers for a city it's size. A lot of other small to mid-sized Canadian cities propose absolute junk, and are lucky to even see those projects go forward.

Kelowna is far above average.

Most towers in Vancouver are still square boxes with a 3 or 4 different exterior finishes.

A few of the downtown hotel proposals in Kelowna look disproportionately elegant for a town its size.

Kelowna actually has rather handsome and clean towers (existing and proposed), especially for a city its size. Nothing to complain about IMO.

Better than nearly everything else proposed across the nation in cities under 1 million.

In find the tower proposals in Ontario outside of the Toronto area especially unappealing for comparison.

Yeah that was another article where the writer contacted me through Reddit for an interview a few weeks ago! I find it pretty neat that Kelowna is where my work has really started to gain traction.

One of major pieces in the Tolko and vicinity industrial area is up for sale (BC Tree Fruits). Tbh, I would love to see one of the older industrial buildings somewhere here to be turned into a Granville Island style public market. It would be a great addition to the area, a tourist attraction, and a natural fit with the Okanagan's exceptional produce. Either in this general area, or the industrial/brewery district near Sun-Rype off Clement. I doubt Kelowna's current council is that forward thinking right now, but who knows.
