Good riddance. Business travel has a huge carbon footprint, and unlike travelling for pleasure (which can teach be a great way to interact with other cultures and learn about the world) travelling for business is mostly pointless. Of course there are some big deals and networking events that will still be worth discussing in person, but multiple trips a month? Give me a break

Depends on the kind of business you're doing. I certainly think actual interaction has no equal, and losing it is a big loss for society. It takes a lot of humanity out of business, or whatever is left of it.

Big economic loss as well. All those business trips equate to hotel nights and restaurant use. Fancy hotels are built in downtowns because of business travel.

In previous years, the department regional manager at my company would fly to Montreal weekly, for plain old weekly meetings. Every. Week. That's asinine. But them execs demanded it.

Now, our clients don't have to pay for that expense. Because my company wasn't paying for it that's for sure. So that money can be spent elsewhere, reduce overall costs, etc. Money spent in other areas as opposed to flights and hotels. Things change.

I doubt many will miss that kind of routine business travel. It's one thing to fly away to San Diego or some exciting locale overseas for a conference or whatever, but constantly going to Toronto or Edmonton for a bunch of one night trips to attend client meetings is a grind that few enjoy, even if you get a nice dinner out of it. It will probably improve quality of life for a lot of people.

Obviously a decline in travel will hurt every city, but I suppose Winnipeg might feel it a bit less proportionally given that we weren't a huge travel hub to begin with.

They have to remove the core slip form unit. It will take a little over a month. Then the top will be completed.

I have to say they've made decent pace on the building more recently. Not sure how the interior is coming along though.

Cabinets are going in on the 3rd floor. Drywall still ongoing on 6.

Very true. This whole pandemic has totally changed everything, and we may have to adapt new methods or ways to deal with those aspects.

Yup. The joys of using Zoom, Discord, or Teams for conference calls has grown since this started. At the very least, it has gravely reduced business travels. There will be some in the trades, where you have technicians flying out to remote places to do service calls, but other than that, virtual conference calls are the way to go now, and perhaps could save companies on travel expenses, while on the flip side, devastated the airline industry.

I remember the MTS phone book catalogue 40 years ago touting the advent of video teleconfererncing for the corporate crowd.

Back then a participant would travel to an MTS Business Centre (Winnipeg Sq., Polo Park, etc...) and MTS would co-ordinate all the parties. Back then that was using satellite or the provincial coax network.

Now just like everything else "broadcast" everything is digital and there is o need to travel to another location to do a video conference. You just use common software that is freely available and free to use.

No need to pull Daddy away from the family jto fly to another city when he can just dp a video call from his corporate office or from his home.

as someone who does 3-5 meetings a day via video, I can personally cannot wait for the return to in person meetings, mostly with my team in Winnipeg. but when i do need to go to another location primarily in US, not flying for a 1 day meeting like much of what you describe, but typically 3-5 day trips

So I found out - there's a full service, high-end salon and barbershop going in 330, they're building their team now and I was told it's being developed by the building owners...?

Not sure if it will be one or both of the units.

Gonna be the more northerly unit I believe, I heard a restaurant is opening in the larger, more southerly unit

Apparently another one. No evidence to back it up the rumour though.
