YVR may not have the grandest or flashiest terminals in Canada, but they definitely have the most unique! That's the kind of thing that must make a huge positive impression on a tourist, I know if I landed somewhere new and saw something like that it'd kick my trip off on a good note.

The new atrium space, where the island forest is located, also features a unique digital public art ribbon as one of the immersive features of the airport design.

You must not be very familiar with Seattle. It's often less time to drive from Everett to BLI than it is across the city to SEA, not to mention the cheaper parking and easier airport experience.

I'm not saying WN at BLI will not negatively effect YVR, of course it will, but WN will definitely target the northern Seattle suburbs, which have traditionally been the fastest growing, for these flights. It's exactly what Alaska is doing at Paine field and I'd expect Southwest to fight them for that market share

Very familiar, no. But familiar enough. I've been there before.

The fight WN will engage in vs. AS at PAE doesn't affect SEA in the slightest. That's my point.

SEA gives a shit about PAE/BLI ops same way YYZ gives a shit about YHM ops. That is, it doesn't.

When you're an airport handling 50 million + passengers (which in the case of SEA is all mostly domestic to begin with), PAE/BLI ops pale in comparison, and are irrelevant. PAE handled what, ~700,000 passengers in 2019? A drop in the bucket, so to speak.

However, if WN at BLI gets to 1 million - mostly Canadian - passengers, then that is potentially 1 million less transborder passengers at YVR. That's quite a larger chunk of transborder traffic that isn't flying at YVR.

That would clearly grab YVR's attention, more so than AS/PAE or WN/BLI ops grabbing SEA's attention.

this is true. going down i definitely try and time my flights outside of rush hour. takes exactly 2 hours with no traffic. i use the 405 to bypass the main city as it also turns into the road that goes right to seatac. alternatively a motel 6 near the airport is only $50 a night so it's easier to go down the night before for a morning flight the next day. coming back with no schedule to keep to if there's bad traffic, i just pull off at the chick fil a and have dinner. it has taken as much as 4 hours as traffic was moving at 20-30km/hr. from the beginning of the 405 all the way to marysville.

Saw an Air France 777 landing this morning, took me by surprise. What flight would that be?

It's not a video screen, it is digitally printed images of kelp taken from a dive site near Horseshoe Bay. The print was then applied to glass panels and installed in the cover in the ceiling along with lighting. There are also kelp prints in the escalator opening, leading to this 'river' on the ceiling.

In case it wasn't clear, that area isn't the main level of the terminal, it is the ground level for the remote stands (the ones you get busses to). That's why the ceilings are lower and isn't as "flashy" as the main departures level. This area is basically just for holding people before the bus comes. Given the current situation in the world, I don't think these will be used for a while, the gat capacity will be more than enough.

Aha, that solve the mystery as to what will that plane do after it returned from YYC late morning.

So for YVR-based plane, Flair's next summer schedule is basically:

Monday/Friday:
1 - YVR-YYC-YVR-YUL-YVR
2 - YVR-YEG-YLW-YEG-YVR-YXS-YEG-YXS-YVR

Tuesday:
2 - *YVR-YUL-YVR
1 - YVR-YYC-YVR-YYC ... (plane left YVR in the afternoon)

Wednesday:
1 - YVR-YWG-YVR-YMM-YVR-YEG-YVR
2 - ... YYC-YVR (plane arrives YVR late night)

Thursday/Sunday:
1 - YVR-YYC-YVR-YUL-YVR
2 - YVR-YEG-YVR-YQR-YVR-YXE-YVR

Saturday:
1 - YVR-YYC-YVR-YUL-YVR
2 - YVR-YWG-YVR-YMM-YVR*

So both planes will be in use daily from 6 or 7am till at least 11pm (except *).

YYZ, YOW, YKF will be based off plane from the east, and all 3 will be at YVR between 2-3pm. So in some days we'll see 4 Flair's planes at YVR during that time (including the non-YUL plane).

This is great, a major extension of YVR's global 'footprint.'

They have been doing a heavy advertising blitz for the past week or more in the area. I see the signs on the big digital screens in Surrey and New West. They say flights start May 2, 2021.

Well this doesn't bode well for Covid, bad timing to start a new route isn't it? Turkey is in a wave with 60,000+ cases per day. https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/turkey-covid-where-did-it-go-wrong

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) (a) and
New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) [seasonal]
Launching Summer 2022
“We’re delighted that JetBlue has selected Vancouver as its first Canadian destination with service from YVR to New York City and Boston,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “As we move through the pandemic and prepare for a safe and healthy return to non-essential travel, this new service, scheduled for Summer 2022, gives us all something to look forward to. By selecting YVR, JetBlue has signaled a vote of confidence in our region as a premier destination, and our airport as a trusted partner, that together will attract a mix of business and leisure travelers when the time is right to fly again.”

CP used to serve YVR-BOS, and pre-COVID, AC had seasonal non stop service.
