Thanks for the pic Rico. That new black tower on the left... Jesus! I don’t understand what the architects were trying to do. Such a disaster.

Interestingly bleak district. (the areas around) UQAM even beats Concordia in the uglystakes.

I get the comparaison, but for some reason I've never found the concordia district particularly ugly. It must be because I was a student there and I'm biased, or maybe because the Concordia ghetto is teaming with activity almost 24/7 and is the host of an incredible array of restaurants.

The areas in the immediate vicinity of Berri-UQAM is bleak central. It's weird because it really shouldn't, it's got St-Denis on the east and the village in the west.

I think it's the actual place dupuis architecture, and the unbelievably sad and embarrassing saga of both the current and old station central bus terminal.

During my visit to Parc Emily-Gamelin, I noticed that old hotel des gouverneurs is now closed and converted into a 30 storey homeless shelter. The park itself was turned into a homeless logistics camp, with toilets and large tents set up for triage. On Maisonneuve, there was a large food bank dispensing line.

Concordia has improved immeasurably in the past 15 years since I last graduated (I got bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees from programs based at Concordia, although the PhD is a joint program from all four Montreal-based universities). Back in the old days (early 90s, it was quite wretched, dominated by the hulking Hall Building, and later, also by the ugly McConnell Library).

Place Dupuis is horribly ugly. the tallest office building there reminds me of the Place du Canada office building next to the Chateau Champlain.

so the hotel des gouverneurs is gone?

Hull, QC with Ottawa's urban west end at the top, left. Shot probably taken in late 2020 based on Zibi progress and lack of snow.

I don't hate it.

I don't hate it because it's much much MUCH nicer than anything in a 1km radius.

Honestly, the immediate vicinity of berri-uqam is a Colossal easthetic nightmare.

It's a shame too, the area has good bones.

Quebec City's skyline is very distinctive. I think the few 1960s/1970s buildings that are prominent in it will age well. All things considered I think I'm glad the newer towers will be in Ste-Foy instead.

They were just installed at the Mission Cliffs a couple months ago. Below is Mission Elementary and the Mission Cliff Bungalow Community Association Building.

I’m assuming that large swath of barren land running through the upper left of the photo is former railway land ?

I saw that too and was wondering the same thing.

I googled it and there does seem to be a plan to revitalize that part of the railyard area, but maybe Regina forumers can confirm.

Regina gives the impression of being considerably larger than its actual population.

I'd definitely agree. It is a bit less pronounced now than it was 20 years ago before other Canadian cities experienced a bit of a skyscraper boom that passed Regina by to some extent, but it's still an impressive skyline. Especially considering that Regina was under 200,000 when most of it was built.
