Also, Italian-Chinese fusion cuisine has failed at least twice downtown before.
There was Oritalia at Le Soleil on Hornby St. and later, after that failed, another on the 2nd floor of what used to be the Keg Ceasar's space at Hornby and Dunsmuir (can't recall the name).
I think that diners of either Italian or Chinese cuisines are disappointed by fusion food not being 'authentic' to either. i.e. adding a bit of sesame oil isn't going to cut it.

Agreed - feels like an early 90's concept

Kind of like the quality, look and feel of the renders!

I don't think Ki was ever fusion was it? I mean it seems a little premature to judge the restaurant on their renders or concept.

Not Ki, Oritalia and the other one (2nd floor of Keg Caesar's) from the 1990s or early 2000s.

Just questioning the fusion concept generally, particularly in Vancouver.

Don't hotel restaurants have a different operating model. I mean they are sort of a building amenity that maybe is subsidized in a way (rent?)

Could be, but not sure. It would have to be through rent as it's a third party running it.

Italian-Japanese has been successful at Kissa Tanto though.

Don Francesco has closed at Waterfront Centre. All Logos have been removed.

Just noticed Faubourg closed down at Park Royal. I think they were closed for renovations or something a while ago? Angus T from Yaletown is taking their space.

According to Dailyhive, Breka is opening up a new 24 hour location at 4554 Main Street (near 29th):

And I think they're also moving into a former Artigiano location on Pender. I can't wait!

Gotcha. Had Pender and Hastings mixed up. I wonder if they'll still go 24/7 at the Hastings location.

I didn't realize Cartems Donuts on W. Broadway had closed. Seems strange as Lucky's on Fourth seems to be doing a booming business and the line-ups Lee's Donuts on Granville Island have been crazy during Covid.

Perhaps more accurately that side of the street is dead for whatever reason-a half block away Sbux has lineups out the door all the time as does Parthenon.

That section of Broadway is fine. Issue is that Cartem's heavily catered to people who wanted to chill/study/work/read in that space - not much of a grab-and-go-affair. So switching to takeout only for covid killed it.

Doesn't seem to have affected grab and go from other donut shops like Lee's (which I'd argue aren't as good and involve more of a journey to GI).

Cartem's Main Street location always seems pretty busy. I'm pretty sure the Broadway location was struggling pre-COVID.
