Looks like a re-zoning proposal is slated to go to council tonight for the corner of North Talbot and Sixth Concession in the Southwood Lakes area. Residents originally pushed back due to increase in traffic and noise, and the decision was deferred until today. Developer has removed 11 units (66 to 55) and has tapered the building closer to the homes, so 4 storeys at the corner and 2 at the edge.

^ That looks like a reasonable change to make the neighbours happy, one would think.

Talk about ugly! This design looks straight out of the 1970’s, ugh, I hope they tweak the design before they break ground!

I agree, it seems like it alleviates the concerns of the large building next door, but I suppose we shall see!

Yeah I hope this is just a rough rendering and the actual build will look a bit nicer. I will say that it looks to be in a good location though. Within walking distance to groceries at Metro, a pharmacy and a park. Hope to see them start soon!

Yeah, it’s in a great location for Tecumseh. I much prefer it’s old downtown area on Tecumseh Rd. to the booming big box area around Manning Rd and 22.

Likewise. Yeah that area at Manning and 22 has really exploded compared to when I was working at a diner there 8ish years ago

Hi guys, long time Windsor resident here. Used to follow these boards 10 years ago or so. Nice to see Windsor growing and jobs being created due to the construction boom. I'm curious to see the population growth over the next few years..

Welcome to the forum! I think Windsor will continue to grow steadily over the next decade or so hopefully. It seems word has got out that Windsor and Essex County are a great place to live and it’s affordability is still a great deal compared. To most of Southern Ontario. Current estimated population of Windsor CMA (now including all of Essex County as of this year) is approximately 430K.

Welcome! I agree with north42. There's been steady population growth across all age demographics here for a couple years now. I see it definitely continuing in the future. With the new construction and Quicken and Edison opening up tech offices downtown, I think there's a lot of potential going forward!

Thank you. That is quite the gain for our region. Amalgamation soon??

I'm very excited for our downtown. I like what I'm seeing and what is planed for the downtown west area. I'd like to see some more density downtown in the future. Maybe some high rise low income apartments, condos, etc.

Investments like these below I feel will attract even more high tech companies to our area.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tecumseh was eventually amalgamated, but I could see it still being a ways off, especially since the last time amalgamation was brought up a few years ago there was some pushback (although that may have been in the Town of Essex)

I agree, and I think getting more people downtown is really the key. That article you shared makes some good mentions. It didn't mention Vehiqilla, a cyber-security company specializing in autonomous cars, which would be really cool if it takes off. Here's a link to the article from CTV (it's from a few months back)

That's great news thanks for sharing.

Does anyone have an update on the new hospital and when they will be breaking ground?

The last news I heard was that the City officially acquired the land, but haven't heard much else since then. Not sure if anyone else here has heard more?

Not sure if this counts as a development, but it sounds like there is a group that's come out with the release of the Windsor Works project on a plan for downtown. From the article, it sounds like the plan is to create an "arts and culture" district downtown, leveraging the theatres, university and college. It makes sense to me, given all the new residents that will be downtown, it will provide some additional entertainment.

It also proposes having interconnectedness between the different sections downtown, from the Esplanade to the east to University Ave in the west. Sounds like an improvement in walkability, which I like to see but hopefully we learn more as their plan takes shape

I’m encouraged that the DT is still a priority and that they are approaching it differently this time. Hopefully it will make a difference and really start a renaissance in the core.

Yeah I agree, I think it also helps that there are developments going on already and this is just building off that momentum, which is great

This seems soo out of place for that area. 😄 After reading the article I hope it works out for the property owners who have been sitting on the property for years unable to develop it into commercial.

this makes me think of the other large project in the area that is on Walker road near the DC road Expressway that apparently has been halted for some time now I question if it will even go through.
