What's the situation with the Peck building? Who owns it? It look like it has been vacant for some time?

It's a beautiful old building and I would love to see it actively used!

That has always been one of my favorite Buildings. It certainly is prominent at that corner, and very unfortunate that it is in its current state. What a charming hotel it could become.

285 Smith Street, 26,000ft2, $3,200,000 purchase price May 6 LOI / sale. Could this be the site? It’s a good buy as previous owner spent over $7,500,000 for it not including carrying costs... It could handle a super tall structure.

Donald and St Mary Street, 30,000 ft2 purchased May 7th, $6,000,000. This could be development site as well.

Good article about Abilities Village, Brent. Is this proposal funded and high-likelihood or is a lot of it hype?

the gimbles in Milwaukee is exactly what should be done with the Bay as Milwaukee and Winnipeg are very similar cities and as mentioned it doesn't need to save downtown but it does need to be a mixed use building that attracts commercial and residential development to bring people back.

285 Smith is the one that included everything but the kitchen sink. Main floor commercial, parkade, residential.

Donald and St Mary they've been kicking tires there for a while. Maybe a year ago they were drilling on the SE corner lot.

I did hear the Marlborough was going after that federal rapid housing program. Not sure if they got it.

195 parking spots for a 132 room Wyndham Garden? The zoning bylaws should take into account whether a hotel has banquet halls/convention space or just a couple of little meeting rooms.

I guess its allowing for 63 staff parking stalls. You need 2x the stalls to allow for parking for a short time for shift changes if everybody drives to work. Once the off shift is gone then those stalls are redundant.

Isn't that too tall for being so close to the airport?

Yes, this is on Long Plain's Winnipeg Urban Reserve. There are actually over 200 parking spots across the development. Interesting that Sparrow will be managing it:

This is Long Plain's second Wyndham after the Microtel in Portage:

I'm surprised the local residents are so worked up about the parking lot variance... the parking lot as shown is massive for a modest-sized hotel, and the surrounding streets are lined with businesses. It's not like someone lives directly across the street and will have to put up with people coming and going all the time.

Waiting to see the headline "No Local Residents Enraged by Development Plans". This would make my day.

Nimby's also concerned about a 10 story proposal in Charleswood (4025 Roblin Boulevard) on a vacant lot, apparently those living in Charleswood feel that they should be immune from progress!
