Anywho, for anyone in the know, when copper does oxidize into a teal; does it become more brittle as a structure? Because I'm thinking that the Statue of Liberty is due for a "spray tan" sometime soon .
No the patina of copper creates a shield that actually helps protects the underlying copper. It's only 2.3mm thick (two pennies). I wonder what the interior of the shell looks like assuming it's not super watertight.

If they can coat it, it won't go green. However, green has always been in vogue: from the days of the Byzantine to the Renaissance.

Interesting photo. I enlarged it and tweaked the resolution a bit.

You can see the old Pender St. Diversion in that pic and Law Courts under construction.

An earlier concept for the redevelopment included a significant 15,000-sq-ft, three-storey high entertainment and music venue within the basement,
with the entrance located on the building’s rear with the square.

But police, fire, and city officials had public safety concerns with the venue’s design, and it was ultimately removed from being a component of the project.

I wonder if this is still planned to be an entertainment venue?

No, I think it's just the restaurant and lounge mentioned in the article.

The roof was not copper before. It was painted terracotta to look like oxidized copper.

Holy shit.

What a monumental waste of human effort.

Thank you for the update though. Will look great on Instagram, I'm sure.

The park looks great! Not sure if anyone noticed but they have gutted 1136 Pacific and completely reclad it. It's going to be "luxury" apartments from Wall Financial.

That's always been an odd building, because it's a strata, but was never sold off. There are only 19 units. It's from 1975, and it looks like it had an EIFS stucco cladding - the sort that often needs replacing. It's done well to last this long. There's another bigger building, Westland Tower, across the street at 1103 Pacific, that's a rental. It's from 1965 and is also being reclad. Older buildings that aren't located where the West End Plan allows redevelopment are going to see more renovation to either retain, or enhance their rental potential. If the City get serious about seismic risks, some should also be redeveloped.

Please no. City needs to have a 5 year freeze on new building bylaws and regulations.

Were letting people die on the streets homeless because we might have an earthquake someday, maybe.

The repairs and seismic upgrades for St. Andrew's-Wesley (Nelson and Burrard) are nearing completion, as materials are being removed from the Church tower this morning. My pix (Feb 27)
