Love it- the trail network over there is going to be amazing. Especially once it connects to the quarry park and then extended north to Huff. Then ideally we have PATH extend the connect the comet trail above chattahoochee ave and down to the BeltLine.

Damn I wish this video had been filmed during daylight hours... Can't really tell where the route goes for much of the video. Landmarks are far and between.

In order- they start at Boone (née Simpson) & Northside and then go north from there- the apartment complex is on Western Ave (The point at westside). They go over the Jett Street tunnel, and the two new bridges at Cameron Madison Alexander (née Kennedy) & Meldrum (which is essentially a kudzu pit). At grade crossings are at North Avenue & Travis Avenue, then the trap music museum is on the right and Julian st and Fox street come together at a right angle on the left. The tunnel the path goes through is at Hollowell (née Bankhead). After that they cross Griffin, James P Brawley (née Chestnut), Oliver, and Joseph E Lowery (née Ashby), all at grade. It looks like the trail loops back before Law Street.

I saw that guy on the trail! I was wondering why he was holding a fishing pole. It was a camera on a stick.

It's very odd, it's literally a trail cul-de-sac about 50 feet short of Law Street. My guess is it ends like that because this is technically a PATH trail, but the continuation will be the official Beltline trial. Different funding mechanisms.

Lol I couldn't tell you which ones are PATH and which ones are Beltline. I didn't know this was a PATH trail. I think the cul-de-sac is going to be a fork, eventually-- with the southern fork meeting the north end of the new Westside Trail Extension, which is supposed to be finished at the end of this year. So you'll be able to walk all the way from the GWCC to Adair Park soon. The northern fork can't follow the rail line there, though, since that one is still active.

Noting WST extension from Reservoir Park to Washington Park isn’t supposed to be complete this year, only the construction documents IIRC. Perhaps the extension up to Huff Rd?

Has anybody been near the Northeast Trail segment 2 (Piedmont Heights behind the Ansley Golf Club) recently? I'm wondering if it's accessible or unofficially open.

Pretty sure I’ve seen a few Strava maps since December where people have been riding it unofficially open. IIRC, plan was to officially open this month.

Thanks- yes that section makes sense. I had forgotten the timeline. I knew the southern section wasn’t going under construction immediately, though looking forward to it breaking ground.

I think I had a dream once about there being a park on top of the GWCC. That would make sense to connect this new trail and Olympic Centennial Park. An alternate idea could have the trail go south to Magnolia Street, and maybe they could connect Andrew Young International Blvd to Magnolia Street.

Ivan Allen has a multi use trail/wide sidewalk that connects this trail to Luckie street cycle track, which takes you south to COP and north past GT and up to 3rd st NW, basically a block or so from Octane.

IMO, this is part of our “backbone” of Atlanta cycling infrastructure and crosstown routes.

Quarterly is focused on selling the SSD. ~900 AH units in the pipeline. Westside connector & BKW considered complete. Extension to Huff under construction. NW study under way.

In the above zoom meeting (which was great!) they looked into doing a parallel bridge, but the only thing that could go forward was rehabbing the existing bridge. 12' trail on the west with 9' high fencing over the tracks and resurfacing the smaller traffic lanes. Intersection of Marietta Blvd and West Marietta is supposed to start March 15th. I'm still ticked off about that new gas station there!

The whole plan to rationalize the area around the quarry and connect to the Silver Comet is truly inspiring!
