Those pier logs have been there for as long as I can remember. Are there any plans to have them removed? As the Halifax waterfront builds out perhaps it's time to fix some of these things.

I think this might be related to a new boardwalk extension that's being built. Some of the wharves were near end of life (the tugboat area) and are being rebuilt and extended out over the water to allow for more public space.

The latter wharf is being replaced, along with a small expansion/renovation of the boardwalk, filling in the V-shaped area in front of the Waterfront Warehouse.

Ah thanks! When I first saw the wooden wharves in Halifax I found them rather jarring and unsuitable for a city. It's what one builds your back deck out of. I've come around to them over the years and it looks like Halifax will continue using wood.

Love the Halifax shots, but hate that concrete wall of a building that takes up more than a third of the width of the first picture.

The Maritime Centre which is so prominent in that photo above is completely blocked by the Alexander (white building) from another angle. The Maritime Centre was built right up to a view plane at an odd angle to the street and has long and narrow floor plates.

The Ralston development (22 floors) is going to have an impact from that first angle. My impression is that in the long run these blue glass buildings will keep proliferating and so the concrete ones will eventually look distinctive and add variety.

Fencing in the photo above is for the Cunard highrise development, and I think the small crane in behind is being used to put up the construction crane for The Governor? Skye will be prominent too.

It's where the bridge on the right used to be, about 5 years ago. I believe it was time for a rebuild and they decided to keep the old piers for a new pedestrian bridge.
