D Pier has 7 remote gates but only 3 wide body remote stands were built on the east apron , where are the stands for the other 4 remote gates?

I don't think remote stand matters whether it's domestic, transborder, or international. As long as the bus carries passenger to/from the right part of the terminal.

And there are many international routes that are narrow-body too. For instance, Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, Iceland... and in the future, maybe UK, mainland Europe, or even Japan...

This kinda fits because it's airport related but anyways:

It seems the six Canada Line stations with the self-serve kiosks have have had the kiosks removed. The website has no mention of them (at least after December 2019).

I have my doubts that these will return as mobile check-in seems prevalent nowadays. I believe quite a bit of them had been sitting broken for a long time.

Does anyone know if gates E90-96 are being used for Dash 8s from the US or are they just using a jetbridge gate in the main US terminal?

Don't think I've ever seen one in use. Not a big loss as you said with the prevalence of mobile and online check-in. As long as they don't take away my ability to print paper tickets at the airport itself I'm good.

I don't believe there is any Dash 8 service to the US. Alaska flights on Embrear E170 or 175. Looks to be using gates in the 80s.

Yeah I see that no one is currently. Schedule shows Alaska will switch to Dash 8 in a week.

Huge news that will affect YVR. Southwest Airlines has announced it's intention to start flights out of Bellingham in the latter half of 2021, contigent on border opening. This is huge as Southwest has a decent product and offers really good fares. No routes announced, but I'm guessing they will be all over the former Alaska routes to Hawaii and down to Las Vegas. Apparently those flights were always full but the yield was too low for Alaska so they pulled out. Southwest being more leisure oriented will fit right in on those routes. Allegiant could be in a bit of trouble with all their fees.

Southwest will have a lot of connections so flying anywhere in the states is much more doable with them being so close in Bellingham.

Interesting article on YVR but light on any detail.

https://biv.com/article/2021/03/new-vanc...tOiZGOkoagAkv9diz33I3Jn3GA8xYvOmopBtDt90

Some takeaways:
- YVR is still focused on being carbon neutral and energy efficiency. I think we will see that big fancy HVAC system some day. Goal is to be Net-zero in 2030 instead of 2050.
- They are looking for non-traditional revenue sources. Not certain what those are and they did not go into any details.
- Asia Pacific focus (as should be expected).
- Improve baggage handling, customer experience etc.
- Investing in digital and data projects. Not certain what that is about.

Southwest will essentially drive Allegiant out and take their place, the leisure and cheap fare options have been there for ages from Bellingham, this is nothing new and scary. Southwest isn't making Bellingham a hub, it is just one of hundreds of individual citiies that they serve. It probably will have LAX, LAS, maybe Hawaii. Basically what Alaska and Allegiant have offered for years, and similar to what is offered in Buffalo.

True for them likely to push Allegiant out of BLI.

Would like to add though that WN has a significantly larger network than Alaska and Allegiant, opening up a whole host of new 1-stop options on a single ticket. They also supposedly have a pretty good product, not known for nickeling and diming you to death. Could attract a new set of traveller's previously turned off by Allegiants business model.

It's possible, but realistically I don't see many regular people here caring about that to the degree that it will kill the market, the people who would go down there for WN are the same as those who go down for Allegiant, they like the cheapness. The reall threat is a high CAN $, that's the real driver. I have a feeling a lot of people around here would still be leery of driving down to the States for flights, with land borders potentially feeling more tough in a post-covid world that the airports could handle better if flying direct from here

Bellingham Airport is quite close to the train tracks. A spur line to the terminal and then some regular trains from Vancouver to the airport would be a game changer for them. However its not clear there is anyone willing to invest in making that happen.

This is huge. I know SW was looking at a potential Canadian expansion and this would be the safest/cheapest option to do exactly that. I imagine there wouldnt be huge slot restrictions at BLI so they can theoretically schedule flights that cater for this demographic...

For example weekend fights to vegas doesnt really have to be at 2pm like Allegiant.

that said, SW will also have competition from Swoop from YXX once they are operational as well... would be interesting to see the different options.

Lets see the destinations they launch with and the usage...

Ultimately, this will be good for YVR. A strong BLI/ PAE will put pressure on SEA and benefit us. if its cheaper to fly from Van than seattle to some Asian destination, they are going to fly to BLI and then take the bus to YVR and go. save a few hundred bucks.

WN has been talking Canada expansion since at least 2014. The CEO, Gary Kelly, actually said in 2014:

"I'd be surprised if we weren't in Canada at least by the end of the decade,"

Well, the decade came and went. No Southwest. The fact they haven't acted on it is a clear sign they have no plans in launching actual service to Canada. Not that I blame them.

lol

You're dreaming if you think this is good for YVR.

No one will do what you describe. 80%+ of the seats on these new WN flights will be booked by Canadians going to the States. The rest will be local BLI traffic. Nothing - or at least very little - else.

This is bad for YVR. It's leakage. Same way YUL leaks to PBG/BTV and YYZ leaks to BUF/IAG. It's all bad for Canada's airports/airlines.

There are no 2 ways about it.

You're way off as well if you think BLI/PAE put any kind of pressure on SEA. It's the other way around really. The US domestic market is so big that BLI/PAE's draw from SEA is minuscule compared to the transborder traffic draw BLI could potentially take from YVR.
