Well after the last two games I can’t see Maurice breaking up Ehlers-Stastny-Copp barring a complete fall off. They’re lighting it up. The bizarre Perrault-Lowry-Appleton line was also punishing, did a great job when out against the McDavid line.

Copp's been playing very well over the last couple years when he does get the shot, IMO, to move up the line-up. He deserves the 2w role. Put Stastny at 3C, Lowry at 4C and the Jets actually have depth at C.

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Copp-Dubois-Ehlers
Perreault-Stastny-Appleton
Harkins-Lowry-Lewis

Mix around the bottom 6 wingers to whatever works.

So, after 10 games the Jets are 6-3-1, good for third in the northern division. Thoughts? Are the Jets where people thought they might be this early in the season? Does it seem like their D is improving at all?

Hot and cold team. Record maybe bolstered by the 3 wins vs. OTT.

Happy to be at 6-3-1. Overall it's been pretty tight games. Could've gone either way. Dubois coming in will help. Still desperately need a top pair D.

Having watched most of the games now, I don't think the defence has been that bad honestly. Don't get me wrong, it would certainly help to have a couple top 4 guys to plug in. But I'm very hopeful with Stanley looking quite good so far and guys like Forbort really playing beyond their pay grade.

What's most worrying is that a lot of goals have come against the team from missed assignments from backchecking forwards, guys just coasting on by to find their man has found themselves alone with an empty net to tip into.

Luckily the team can score, but I must say that Wheeler and Scheifele have been very underwhelming this year at 5 on 5.

When Dubois starts playing, the worst performing forward should be moved to the third line. That would be Wheeler, not even close.

Without getting into the specifics on why Laine was traded. He wanted to play #1 line with #1 line minutes. And lookey here there is an opening on the #1 line.

Yeah, Wheeler was in Laine’s way and Maurice enables Wheeler - he has some romantic notion about older players. How do you tell Ehlers or Copp or Statsny, or whoever is going to have to drop to the third line, when all have been playing way better than Wheeler, that they have to drop down? Wheeler could drop down to the bottom six and still play on the power play. I don’t have confidence Maurice will do the right thing, and Laine-style situations will continue. I notice Laine was on the first line for Columbus and had the most minutes (although he didn’t have a great game, probably rusty).

You can't really compare the Jackets' situation to ours... Columbus is all defence, they have almost no offensive firepower – that's why they went to get Laine, of course he's on their top line. And yeah, he had a horrible first game.

In one of the games this week my wife pointed on that Connor was running the old Laine set play of going to the face off circle and waiting for the pass just on the opposite side of the ice.

And sure enough that is what he is doing but also as a more rounded player than Laine has been in previous seasons. With that in mind it makes sense to trade Laine for a top center as we definitely don't need two wingers in the top six that are being told to just wait for the pass and take a big slapshot. Granted this seems to be more a coaching issues than a player skill issue but soon as Connor started eating into the role Laine's time here was done.

I really hope the lines are Wheeler/Statsny-Schiefele-Connor and Copp-Dubois-Ehlers. Pushing Wheeler/Statsny to the third line builds two fairly consistent top lines. If we go Statsny-Dubois-Ehlers on the second line it might be better "right now" but lets be real, when the trade off comes in Statsny is leaving or if it doesn't there is a big question on if he is signed back with the team for next season. Copp, Elhers and Dubois are all under contract for next season so give them the opportunity to build the chemistry as a solid 1B (second) line.

The thing with Laine is there are only 3 people I can think of like him. Bret Hull, Ovi, and Laine. Clapper from the dot is their specialty.

You can put anyone on the dot for the PP.

Yeah there are few more dangerous shooters in the game. This is one of the reasons to hang onto a guy like that. He can be a real X factor and bust games wide open, and that sort of skillset is essentially a unicorn. Really hard to come by.

Laine is definitely a special talent but I think the trade for Dubois makes the team stronger overall. Just upset at effectively getting nothing for Roslovic and eating some of Laine's contract.

Laine benched already. This is why I wasn't crushed when we traded him. Unfortunately he has a lazy side to his game that I can't stand. His goal scoring ability is second to none, but his lazyness could keep him from being great.

What about Roslovic? Seven points in his last five games, including the OT winner yesterday? Considering he had 29 points in 71 games last season, that's quite a tear for him. He might end up gaining a whole lot more out of this trade than Laine... you can argue that PLD makes up for the loss of Laine, but as of right now the third rounder we got from the CBJ pales in comparison to what Roslovic has been doing lately.

My take on the trade after 2 weeks.

Laine - As expected. The benching is surprising though.

Roslovic - Not surprised in his play. Getting top line C duties, so that obviously helps. He was never going to get that in Winnipeg and don't blame him for wanting out. CBJ has basically zero talent up front. I do not like him sitting out though. That's the real pansy way about things. At least Laine and Dubois played it out.

Dubois - Maybe some high expectations from the fans at this point. I expect he'll be slow to start. Long term he is bonafied #1C and based on that Winnipeg did well in the trade. They did give up 2 good pieces and the superstar talent, personality, and ego, of Laine.

Roslovic always had that strong game in him. I think he was competing against too many people for the higher lines. Being in his hometown is certainly gonna motivate him too.

The lack of not getting anything back in the trade for Roslovic hurts, but I loose respect for a player when they hold out. He, himself ended up punishing the Jets in getting any return for him as nearly impossible.

I always thought he was a very good talent but regarding his wants of being a top six forward - I ask all of you armchair quarterbacks out there, who do you displace in the Jets top six to insert Roslovic? Unfortunately it was just a numbers game in Winnipeg.

It would be Littles spot. And the Jets have too much loyalty to Little. Moot point now on that front.

I thought Jets would get a D man back and then maybe trade draft picks as well. Kind of disappointed in the overall return on the trade. But the big piece in Dubois is great. There were reportedly 20 something teams in on Dubois. And I assume the ones who were not have no room for him.
