Ugh, I have never even noticed how awful the entire podium looks like. Not just dirty but brutalist architecture.

Not all brutalism is bad, but yup when you don't clean it, it goes full Eastern Europe on you.

Power washing would do wonders for it - as well as opening up those windows that look papered over (unless those are closed blinds).

Starting to clad the rooftop screen wall (with spandrel to hide mechanical) on the south side.

Pic by me today.
The top row may be transparent.
The spandrel at least provides a background for signage.

This one is a bit of a disappointment. Up close the detailing looks pretty nice (the frit, fins, little swoops in the massing), but from a distance, it looks like a cheapo stick of seafoam.

I think the good news is that this building is visible almost from nowhere. It's a filler building in a densifying area.

As one of the only glass towers in the area, it still brightens up the area, even if seafoam.

This project also adds office space in the right spot i.e. next to a big transit hub. The fact it's a fill building helps to make it a great addition to creating a denser area of jobs down the road once occupied. I know people are disappointed for the loss of what was there but the addition I think really will make the area just that much better in the long run.

I cannot understand why so many people hold this building so dear. It may have age-related heritage value, but to me it smacks of Minsk or Warsaw... or such. (ug-Ly)!!

i think the only reason people like this building is because it has the unique tower top and has been so predominate on the Vancouver skyline for so long.

i like it for that reason, the rest of it is —.

we should replace it with this instead!

that time eatons planned the tallest tower in the world

we would get to keep the revolving part, plus get a glass tower.

Looks very slim from that angle.

Too bad this wasn't a few floors taller. It just barely makes an impact on the skyline. My pics from yesterday.
