Noticed this view in a condo ad for Verona @ Portico (old project from early 2000's that makes the Masonic centre tower look like Kowloon Walled City. Liked what the Grosvenor Pacific and the Bjarke Ingels tower is doing to the skyline here. Burrard Place, not so much

My schooling did not place the same value on this heritage that Darren’s did, which is why I attended this Urban Design Panel meeting, as I thought this proposal would offer me a better understanding. The Grandview Woodland Community Plan calls for this culture to be celebrated, in part because this neigbourhood also has the largest Indigenous population in Vancouver. This concept attempts that in several ways, though one panellist was more focused how its height could be justified.

Citylink turned out well. That's a nice solid addition to the area and a model of high-quality office infill.

Joie is quite the sight, with the heritage houses (or what's left of them) suspended on stilts like a landlocked fishing village. I appreciate the urban texture that results when old houses are preserved and integrated into new development. I realize that the economics of it are appalling, but the end result is a nicer city, in my opinion at least. That is insane. Surely the gymnastics above plus rebuilding the lower halves of those houses and filling in the missing parts of the upper halves must add up to more than the cost of simply rebuilding the houses from scratch?

Probably not allowed to due to heritage retention restrictions, although I admit that's a bit of a joke.

I've seen entire homes gutted and rebuilt due to the heritage restriction, but gutting and ONLY saving the second floor? How the hell is that allowed?

I'm not sure where to post this or if this has already been posted so I apologize if I have committed either of those posting faux pas. Anyways I came across The Future We Want: Conversation Kit from the COV website.

You can either pick up your kit in person OR you can download the pdf if you prefer. And I have to say that I do highly commend the creative efforts that the city officials have put together to get everyone talking.

I figure that since we all have opinions on what gets constructed in this city, that it is our civic duty to fully participate in these kinds of conversations directly with the city officials.
