It really is a beautiful small city, both from an urban and natural perspective. I need to get back there this summer and do a photo tour.

Yes, fares will be integrated in the entire region. The ARTM is still working on the details, but their plan is to have 4 zones, where the fare will give you access to all modes of transportation (métro, REM, suburbain train, buses), with free transfers.

Excellent. So the fare structure should be quite similar to Vancouver. I wish they could do the same in Ottawa, so that a 2 kilometer trip through the central city would not cost the same as a 30 kilometer trip from the suburbs. And this from a guy who lives in the suburbs.

The river valley depth is substantial for Edmonton's entire bisecting length.

Edmonton doesn't really have big hills but the river valleys are quite substantial... you have the North Saskatchewan River valley itself which is huge, and there are a number of ravines that run more or less perpendicular from it.

I infinitely prefer this to a mass of corporate office towers and glass condos. It's really unique, but it took me a long time to come around to appreciate it.
