The sad thing is that it's vastly easier to punt someone like this in a rental building. Having personally had a condo neighbour that reveled in being an uber-douche, the lasting effects on one's psyche are effectively permanent.

Stratas struggle with renters because the owner is often very hands off, could be overseas. Their tenant is running amok and fines are being levied, weeks or months after the actual actions. Months later the owner comes and begs for forgiveness because they "didn't know what was happening/weren't getting the mail/other excuse".

It's really bad for the neighbours.

Renters of strata units can be an issue, as can owners of strata units. In my case, it was the owner of a strata unit that felt it was his hillybilly right to have bush parties in his condo 24-7-365.

Police had received a report that a party with more than 100 people was being held inside a penthouse suite. Responding officers encountered a doorman wearing a protective vest in the hallway outside Movassaghi’s unit.

Movassaghi, a former wealth manager, denies his home has become some sort of party palace and claims he was just watching UFC with a few neighbours when officers started banging on his door around 10:30 p.m.

“One of the officers attempted to film inside my unit through the peephole,” Movassaghi said in a complaint to the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner. “Officers also blocked the fire exit door and illegally blocked and occupied the fire exit hallway for over one hour.”

Visintin confirmed that a complaint has been made.

The makeshift club at Telus Garden is reportedly called Granny’s, and according to a person with knowledge of the events being held inside the penthouse, party invitations have been regularly delivered to invited guests using the encrypted messaging app Telegram.

An invitation to Granny’s New Year’s Party, obtained by Postmedia News, advertised exotic dancers, DJs, light shows, servers and a full bar.

Movassaghi said he knows nothing about the invitations or the alleged makeshift nightclub, but he did note that his girlfriend’s nickname is Granny.

The VPD brought down the hammer on a repeat COVID offender and hit each of his guests with a $230 “for attending a non-compliant event — contrary to the Emergency Program Act.”


The penthouse, on Richards Street and Georgia Street, is the same three-level apartment police visited last weekend. And police say after two more parties this weekend they went to the building overnight with a search warrant.

Officers found dozens of maskless people packed in the 1,100-square-foot penthouse, which had menus, tables, and cash tills.

“Let this be a lesson to anyone who thinks the rules don’t apply to them,” Sgt. Steve Addison says. “If you are caught hosting or attending a party during the pandemic and continue to break the rules, you could face stiff fines or wind up in jail.”

The 42-year-old man who was hosting the party was arrested under the Public Health Act and taken to jail."

I forget, did the article say the penthouse had a private elevator or did the host endanger the health of all the other residents?

I’d also suggest to Darren Entwhistle that letting your company name be used on a private building where it can be dragged into “guilt by association” isn’t the smartest move.

78 people in a tiny 1,100 sqft unit - yikes! I recall Telus Garden having a bunch of penthouse units. Like six or eight. One was at one time renting for a fairly decent price but never made it to see it.
