Given everything we know about the 'future' Gloucester High School station, would this mean that the station will be elevated?
Even so, is there room for that?

Ground level.

The cost-cutting design changes announced last week mean a station near Gloucester High School would be shifted south into the median of Highway 174.

“A future station east of Gloucester High School can be protected, although the median location will be more challenging to access,” according to an environmental project report published by the city just before Easter weekend.

Thanks! Many of us were having trouble envisioning exactly where they thinking of locating that future station.

I was going to say there seems to be a glitch with the drawing with how the platforms overlap with the median road lanes, until I read the report: "The station would need to be implemented in conjunction with future road realignment to provide sufficient median width to accommodate the platforms."

I mean, they are currently rebuilding the highway on either side of the median... can they not leave enough space to allow future platforms without requiring another highway re-alignment down the road? It almost seems like this is designed so that it is nearly guaranteed to never happen...

Exactly - this is what I said several pages ago - they are designing for (or rather not designing for) the station in such a way that adding the station will never be financially viable. Just the cost of adding a station and a station access overpass would have been debatable from a cost/benefit perspective, but the cost of adding a station WITH highway widening - never going to happen. Any talk of "protecting for a future station" by the City has always been just to placate the people that were calling them out for not adding a station between Blair Station and Montreal Road Station - the City has never intended to build it.

Calgary has a similar project under contemplation for a line finished in 2004 ish - I remember $55 million thrown around including highway realignment, a bridge to both sides of the highway, and a new train set or two (to enable frequency to stay the same while system wide travel time increases).

Hard to disagree. I still don't understand the decision to prioritize Montreal station over this, considering there's very little around it and it hardly has any local bus service as it is. The only way Montreal station will become a transfer hub is if some routes are truncated to end there instead of at Blair, and is that really an improvement?

As PHrenetic would say, NoJoy!!

I wish they had done a better job protecting for a future Jasmine station. Heck, would have been nice to include the Austin this round.

But, there's also a bit of over dramatizing here. Pearson High School to Montreal station will be 1.4 km. That is a 17 min walk or a 6 min bus ride. It's 1.8 km to Blair. 23 min walk or 7 min bus ride. And they will have buses running through their neighborhood to both stations.

The future station will not be located in the highway median. Those plans are outdated. The protected location for the gloucester high school station is west of the flyover where the pocket track on geoottawa is located. At least that's what the plans showed last time I saw them about a year ago.

I wish they would have crossed the O-Train at Jasmine Park instead, which would have been a smoother transition with the line heading straight into the median instead of having to turn into it. It would also have kept a potential Jasmine station north of the highway.

Traffic disruptions begin Thursday from LRT-related projects

Joanne Laucius, Ottawa Sun
Jan 15, 2021

A number of LRT-related projects will disrupt traffic starting on Thursday, says the city of Ottawa.

In the east end, the disruptions will include closing the eastbound off-ramp from Highway 174, starting Thursday at 10 p.m. and ending Friday at 5 a.m.

The eastbound on-ramp from southbound Montreal Road to Highway 174 will also close from Thursday at 10 p.m. until Friday at 5 a.m.

In the west end, the westbound on-ramp to Highway 417 from northbound Pinecrest Road will close daily between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. starting Monday. The closure depends on the weather and is expected to be over on the morning of Jan. 22.

Meanwhile, sections of Byron Avenue between Sherbourne Road and Redwood Avenue, and between New Orchard Avenue and Ancaster Avenue will remain closed until the end of March for Stage 2 LRT work.

For construction updates across Ottawa, or for information about traffic and travel planning, visit Ottawa’s traffic map.

Found this on O-Train Fans. Ridership projections for each Confederation Line station, 2031 and 2048. Page 21:

Also, station features (washrooms, retail, entrances...)

Would it be possible to eventually add new stations at Jasmine, Centrum and Tenth Line without a lengthy shutdown like we're doing with the Trillium Line ?
